Europe must resist pressure to become ‘America’s followers,’ says Macron

While he had a brilliant mind, Smuts was unpopular with his countrymen because of his conciliatory attitude toward the English. His failure to reprieve Jopie Fourie – a ABW hero executed after his participation in the Boer rebellion of 1914-1915 made him few friends in South Africa.

A very interesting read is "Jan Smuts - wie en wat was hy eintlik" by Dr Paul Grobbelaar. Smuts was not all he was made out to be.

He had by contemporaries been described as not being a bad or unintelligent man but an unwise one.

The Boers chose an unwise General against the British, an unwise British General defeated the Germans in Namibia in WW1 and an unwise man made the rank of Field Marshall and was present at the signing of the Japanese surrender?

Methinks you underestimate the founder of the science of Holism who rode with a book of Kant's philosophy as bedtime reading in his saddlebag on campaign in the Boer war and whose nickname was "Slim Jannie".

Little poodle yaps trying to improve his single digit approval rating.
Does he think the US nukes all over europe are there for his "protection"

Why? France has its own independent nuclear forces:

France is the only member of the European Union to possess independent (non-NATO) nuclear weapons. France was the fourth country to test an independently developed nuclear weapon, doing so in 1960 under the government of Charles de Gaulle. The French military is currently thought to retain a weapons stockpile of around 300 operational (deployed) nuclear warheads, making it the third-largest in the world, speaking in terms of warheads, not megatons.

Literally the only thing I like about France.
They always try to have their own systems and structure, even if it is half-assed most of the time.

yup, not sure wtf he's on about, Europe has been USA's bitch for decades already

"becoming America's followers" doesn't fit the picture, maybe relevant for some of North & East Europe irrationally jonesing to cast off the shackles of neutrality and join the US military spending club called NATO

but certainly most of Europe and most definitely France has had that star spangled ball-gag in their mouths for decades

In order for the EU to decouple from the US they need the UK to return to the EU and join the Eurozone and they need Russia to play nice and sell their natural gas and oil in Euros.

That said I should point out that a large of part the french economy and government spending is propped by their former African Colonies through the CFA Franc

That was maybe in the 80s. Now it's the same puffy garbage everywhere.
I literally cannot digest the garbage anymore, all I can actually eat is the "health" bread..... because it's actual bread and even then I have to look for the one with the least amount of sugar in it.
