Musk says Twitter is roughly breaking even, has 1,500 employees

If the rental amounts are as immaterial as you suggest, why not just pay them instead of being a corporate delinquent?
And you're making it sound like it's everything.

There may be some lunatics who'd jump to work at Twitter, but anyone of sound mind and well skilled would probably look elsewhere unless the money was huge.
"They're lunatics because I personally don't like Elongated Muskrat, who owns the company."

Let's consider their EVP:

Recent history of mass redundancies
In arrears with office rental
A reputation for zero work/life balance
Bring your own bog roll to work day, every day
Etc etc

Sounds like an excellent place to work. Not.
Sounds like the early days of every big company which very talented people flocked to.

The 1,500 people still there must be suffering.

Don't worry, my guy. I'm sure Twitter will be fine.

For progressive fckwits it’s going to be bad place. The culture needed to be changed. The way to do that is to change the people. So getting rid of the useless progressives who hated working there and were biased, he changed the culture to a positive one.

You only pay the bills you have to pay, otherwise you are stupid. You will find that out one day when you run a business.

Why. I'd bet there's people who'd jump to work at Twitter.

Pretty much. Blizzard has the same model. Pay market rates (i.e. not over the top BS like Twitter used to pay) but still manage to attract top talent. The company brand helps attract talent.

Re the rental - the amounts owing would still be sitting on his income statement. I merely questioned whether he was including that in his "roughly" breaking even future predictions. Unless he starts paying soon and deals with the arrears, that number is only going to increase.

I'm glad you think Twitter would be a lovely place to work. I'm fairly sure that anyone with a job offer from Twitter on the table along with one from a proper enterprise, would probably choose the latter.

It's pretty obvious that there are disagreements which are impacting payments. Heck, I have used non-payment as a method to force delivery of certain aspects of the relationship/agreement. Any business owner or senior manager understands this.

New management is in place. They are going to renegotiate terms that they find unacceptable. From the sounds of it, previous management treated the place like a never ending money tree. Wouldn't be surprised if this extended to all their service providers too.

Like student debt? :p

And, again. These outstanding rentals will not even move the dial on their income statement... So your point is completely moot.

You really are missing the forest for the trees.

He must be an extremely talented chap to have identified 6500 "useless progressives" within a couple of days of buying that mess.

I have run several businesses over the years and while cashflow is clearly king, I've always regarded office rental as a bill that you do indeed have to pay. Surprised to see you defending his scrounger mentality and I look forward to your equally vehement defence of electricity bill dodgers from Soweto.

Yeah, that only works for a small percentage of business owners in the US - mostly billionaires. Credit history is all that matters for the regular folk.

I'll ask again - if they are so immaterial, why not just pay them?

Surprised to see a staunch conservative coming out in support of corporate delinquency. Looking forward to your defence of Soweto residents too.

If non-payment of rentals is due to a cash flow issues at Twitter, shouldn't you at least be positive about the announcement? Or are you using a non-payment as a beating stick because you can't stand Musk and what he has done at Twitter?

I am pretty sure it's the latter.

He has armies of people that do this for him. Much of this work would have been done in the due diligence phase, too (especially around quantifying synergies).

Seems like you have no idea what happens in M&A...

The ANC is also well known for not paying its creditors. Looking forward to your justification of that too.

What a stupid argument.

1. We do not understand the circumstances around non-payment.
2. These two situations are not the same.

I am very aware of what happens in due diligence exercises.

I have never seen one that involves ascertaining the political stance of a company's employees or categorising them as "woke" or otherwise. Weird stuff.

Seems like you have a distorted idea of what happens in M&A...

Looking forward to you posting point 1 in the next ANC thread.
