No, they should have stake outs with flir cameras after they replace the struts. They should be targetting the scrap yards and start dealing with them heavy handily.

But the whole point of sabotage would be to cause chaos, so why would they care of an alarm is raised?
And I think that line about them being stolen at a rate where the municipality cannot keep up is some political spin, even the mayor is not convinced that the municipality was on top of its game, he did allude to the fact that he still needs to see the maintenance schedule and what was done on the pylons. We know at the rate the municipality does it's work you report something and they totally forget about, from potholes to pretty much anything.
Or both but if the cameras show a bunch of balaclava clad guys stealing metalwork, and then the camera, to a snoozing control room it won't be too helpful. Catch them and they will be replaced by other thieves; this is SA. The scrap dealers often/mostly/sometimes have fixed premises so should be easier to raid and search. Snag to SAPS etc I think is that the scrap dealers pay succulent bribes, may have political connections and can easily organise a hit to take out an inconvenient cop, hence are left alone; a bit like the taxi bosses. No, they should have stake outs with flir cameras after they replace the struts.
The flir is in the scope and the law has changed to treason with shoot on site with video evidence:Or both but if the cameras show a bunch of balaclava clad guys stealing metalwork, and then the camera, to a snoozing control room it won't be too helpful. Yip, in Tshwane, still have loadshedding. Are you in Tshwane? We had no LS today even though scheduled.
Ive had a guy break into my property to steal a rusty old 44 gallon drum... Got him down the road on his way to the scrappys with it on his head.. ... But as fast as you can catch these fkrs there are 1000 more to replace him.. I really dont know how this country can combat this issue but SAPS is not up to the task...Or both but if the cameras show a bunch of balaclava clad guys stealing metalwork, and then the camera, to a snoozing control room it won't be too helpful. Vandalism & theft are too soft descriptions of whats going on here. Sabotage NR-1, just find the syndicates involved. These are proved structures with all the components assembled. Remove the syndicate headquatuers and the footsoldiers will disappear as well.

How do you prove metal is stolen?Should be along the lines of if a scrap yard is found with any stolen metal from state infrastructure such as rail lines/power lines/etc... the scrap yard is immediately shut down and the owners are arrested on the spot.
How do you prove metal is stolen?
That's why they burn the cable first. Its not easy without a doubt... especially in respect of structural steel such as for these pylons.
But for cables it gets a fair chunk easier when the sheething on the cables can be identified.
And rail lines are even easier![]()

lol with rail, yeah no talking yourself out of that one lol
They just burn them because the metal is worth more if it is pure as opposed to covered in rubber. That's why they burn the cable first.

The one from the good old days had Iskor stamped all over it.Its not easy without a doubt... especially in respect of structural steel such as for these pylons.

and we have not seen one close up pic of all the missing struts.
I am sure the top priority was to restore electricity, not to prove some sabotage theory.and we have not seen one close up pic of all the missing struts.
Not one journalist that wanted to get a good story?I am sure the top priority was to restore electricity, not to prove some sabotage theory.
