Tshwane refuse and sanitation tariff increases

Tshwane is under collecting for services residents are using but not paying for so their solution is to jack up the refuse and sanitation charges of those who do pay to make up the budget shortfall. That is not good enough DA! Go clamp down on the non-payers first before you try screw the law abiding residents.

Maybe all non-paying people are ANC people and Mayor wants their votes by not going after them? I think it is a shrewd political move. Great soweto electricity type of strategy aiming at 2024.

Punishing those that pay again. I dont vote DA because of this. Ive already dropped my electricity spend drastically next is my water usage which affects the sanitation.

So they make a plan to get the city out of debt but now they are evil?

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

R1.2bn in irregular and wasteful expenditure flagged by the AG last year, stop excusing mediocrity, pretend for a minute they were the ANC in the same position and think about what you would say if they increased rates to compensate for their mismanagement of the city finances.

They are socialist rewarding non payers by charging those who pay more. It will only create more non payers and piss off those who pay. Its a short sighted "solution" to the problem.
I don't think it is a long term solution. Will need to get their gat in rat to find a sustainable solution, but they will need to get out of the hole they in now at least.

Sadly poor government decisions will always have financial repercussion.

Same here. The DA didn't get my vote last two elections. I'd rather support a smaller party who aligns with my values.

I'm still playing with a calcite filter to get the pH of my borehole water well above 7 and then I'm connecting it to my house.

I could probably refuse to pay for water and see if they cut me off in order to see if the fixed water network access charge stops being added to the bill. The fixed sanitation charge would likely remain.

If you fill the hole with the soil from another hole you still have a hole and most likely a bigger one. There is only one way to fix it and that's making the tough calls and doing the right thing.

They are already losing a lot of electricity customers who install solar. Next people will go back to boreholes so water and sanitation drop to zero.

So then they will try and up the rates and taxes but if they can't cut off your water or power how do they enforce payment? These actions will never have the outcome they want it to have because its not a fair system.

They must do like Kimberley, make the hole attractive.

What about both. Reasonable increase for everyone and take steps to get non payers (of who you will be one soon as well) to pay up.

If they go after the non-payers then increases likely wouldn't be required. It's the same situation as Eskom jacking up electricity tariffs each year but municipalities and townships like Soweto refuse to pay. Eventually the haves supporting all the freeloaders will just leave. Oh wait ... that's already happening.

I agree, but they wont get it short term. Takes time to get money from people who spent it all on luxuries (or credit to try survive), besides stop stealing, they still need a short term solution to get out of the mess.

were the ANC in the same position
The ANC is not capable of doing good. They are corrupt and incompetent to the core. There is not a spot of integrity left in them. If there was just 1% chance they could make a u-turn from their evil ways, I would get hopeful when they implement changes, but all they do is create a cesspit of destruction.

The DA messed up big time, but looking at other regions, if they can get rid of the rot there is still hope. They need to act swiftly as corruption spreads like a cancer.

The ANC is too far rotten and hopeless to have a similar expectation.

Just to remind you they have been there since 2016, instead of stopping the rot created by the ANC they have created their own rot on top of that, the financial mess they are in is self created, they have made history by putting the city in the worst financial position that it has never experienced even during the ANC's governance.

What does it say about their governance when they are able to do things that even the ANC couldn't manage in the metro? The fact that they are better somewhere is irrelevant, they are governing in Tshwane and they should be better there, it is of cold comfort for the residents of Tshwane to hear that the DA is doing so well in Cape Town, what are they supposed to do with that? They don't live in Cape Town, they live in Tshwane

A short term solution is to borrow the deficit while going after the non-payers and then using the money collected from the previous non-payers to repay the loan. That seems much more equitable than screwing the paying customers until eternity with "short term solutions".
There is no such thing as a temporary solution when it comes to billing customers more. Look at CoCT for some examples.

They were left with a pretty big dump to turn into unicorn stardust, and made poor decisions in leadership which was very destructive. They gonna need someone with big balls to tackle mess. If their latest sparkle of hope mess up as well, that city is best giving power to a bunch of drunks. I think however there is a bigger chance they can get it right this time around than some or other ANC fart.
