On a Dual Sim iPhone, what is the way to select which sim is used on a call?
My SIM card is the main sim and I can only select the eSim when using the dialer. Other than that it defaults to the main sim or whatever sim the call was dialled with and there’s no option to select a different sim, for instance when dialing from the call history or similar.

Correct, as per the op you can select which sim you want to use when on the dialer page but that seems to be the only place you can do that. I want to be able to reply to a call for instance and select a different sim to call back on. It was very easy on Android, you just hold down just about any number and a pop-up would allow you to choose which sim to use to make the call

Lesson learnt, go back to Android

Oh I see what you mean now. I think the only option would be to copy and paste the number onto the the dialer.

Yes that’s what I have been doing but it’s a bit clunky and surely there must be an easier way?
I can’t even select which sim to call out on when dialling from my contacts list :(

Yeah one would think there is an easier way.
From your contacts you can click on “default” and it will give you an option to pick which sim you want to use.

I can only select the eSim when using the dialer but other than that it defaults to the main sim with no option to select the secondary eSim when for instance dialing from the call history or similar.
That's not true at all. It uses the last option you used for that number.

Can Android even do that ?

If I recall you could set Sim 1 = call and Sim 2 = data. But not settings within a call

Or am I misunderstanding?

On another note, do get get data esim contacts to do Sim 1 = call and Sim 2 = data?

Copy the number and paste on the dialer if you don’t want to use the last used?
Yes that’s what I have been doing but I was hoping there would be a more elegant solution but it would appear not.

If I want to make a call I have a big dial button split in two for the two sims, I just tap on the side of the icon I want and that sim will be used. So yes android can do that.

In another notable addition spotted by TechCrunch, users are also getting better dual-SIM support, with the ability to sort messages based on SIM, separate ringtones for each SIM, and the ability to choose a SIM when calling back an unknown number.

In iOS 17 you just click the "i" next to the number on the call history list and then choose the line you want to use.
