Unfortunate, but black males, at night on your property are quite likely not "at the wrong house", but with malicious intent.

The problem in states is shoot first, ask questions later mentality. You can see this all the time in their cop shows and tv. Cops immediately pull out a gun and shoot at people, vs using a weapon as a last resort.

Sticking the guy in jail isn't going to solve that, especially given his age. Taking the gun away, and taking a long hard look at gun laws will help.

The other problem, and there are people in this thread that are doing this, is that assuming a racial motives is inciting people to go and vandalise the shooter’s home.

This is why people shouldn’t participate in the racial grifting when this happens. There are grifters like Ben Crump spreading racial hatred when there is absolutely no evidence of it.
