Fox News lawsuit: Can it afford the $787.5m Dominion settlement?​

In a last-minute deal, Fox News has settled a defamation lawsuit from voting machine firm Dominion over its coverage of the 2020 US election.
The network, controlled by media mogul Rupert Murdoch and his family, agreed to pay Dominion $787.5m (£634m).
While the payout is large, it means Fox avoids what was billed by some as the defamation trial of the century.
However, the network faces a second, similar lawsuit from another election technology firm, Smartmatic.
The settlement means that Fox and Dominion can now put the case behind them with both firms being able to claim victory.

Yes it can otherwise they would not have agreed to the settlement, which is a really stupid thing to do, but it is just assumed that in a trial either the judge or jury will be left leaning.

Pretty pathetic from fox as they do not believe in their own reach and influence as the biggest MSM network.

The fact that dominion could be hacked is a reasonable opinion to have as there's plenty of security experts that said so, even democrats when they didn't like the outcome of previous elections said so, plus the fact that many of those machines just don't always work on voting day.

No statement regarding this, made by any fox news presenter was found to be factually false. Although I have no idea what any of the idiots actually said. Fox agreed to settle. It is not even clear yet if they are going to admit to wrongdoing or issue an apology. And even if they do agree to apologize for doing something "wrong" it doesn't make it so legally as it is still not a judgement.

The trial would have done a lot of reputational damage to Fox News so they had no option but to settle.

The money will be recovered in no time.

Ja no nonsense. In this part of the trial Dominion would need to proof their damages, which is zero.

Murdock just didn't feel up for testifing for this BS so paid.

Fox news would have shown Dominion the middle finger if that was the case. Fox News were cornered so had nonoption bit to settle.

Murdoch understands the media business well enough to know effects of reputational damage. That's why he survived this long. He knows when to fight.
