Power crisis: Ramokgopa's 18-month plan to prevent total economic collapse

Power crisis: Ramokgopa's 18-month plan to prevent total economic collapse ANC losing next elections.

Fixed.
In a way it is a tricky situation and probably the last thing on Sparky's mind is the efficient production of electricity. As you note, he has to make the right noises and produce just enough to keep the Soweto etc lights on and satisfy ANC voters there; payment is secondary. But then he has to ensure that "Eskom" remains under ANC control so that the deployed cadres, useless and crooked plus the tenderpreneurs, probably led by his bosses, Mantashe et al, can continue to gorge themselves. Finally he has to sing a good tune to get money out of "loans" from various institutions to feed the voracious and inefficient Eskom.

Well education for one. I am wondering about the quality back then . To seriously think that only catering for a portion of the population equates to catering to the whole population is bordering on retardation.
SOE's like the railways catered for everyone from urban, rural, to township dweller i.e. the whole population of SA. Now, mostly non functional throughout the country, blame can be laid where ?

Non functional as we are now gearing up for the high speed rail links to the smart mega cities...

And these people still think there is an economy left in SA.... SA has been degraded to a township economy and they will never, ever again see any economy like 1994 and before.
"Never" is far too certain, we don't know what the future holds.

I have hope.

South Africa’s electricity woes have also been made worse by theft and vandalism. Earlier this month, areas of north and east Pretoria lost what little power they had when seven pylons carrying high-voltage cables collapsed. The local mayor said there was a “very strong possibility that this is because of criminal vandalism”.

Thieves have been known to target pylons, railways and other infrastructure to steal metal and cabling.
I'll just leave this here:
Widespread Electricity Outages in NMB | Monday, 24 April 2023, 06:00
We are aware of large scale electricity outages across NMB at the moment caused by the Chatty substation that has tripped. This has affected all areas fed from the following major substations: Rowallan Park Sub, Chelsea Sub, Lorraine Sub, Summerstrand Sub, Arlington Sub, Greenbushes Sub, Greenbushes Industrial Sub, Bloemendal Sub.
Although we have little information as to the reason or the cause at this stage, we have reason to believe that it is likely to have been caused by intent.
Last week the Metro suspended 7 officials within the Electricity and Energy (E&E) Directorate after a preliminary forensic investigation uncovered proof of a corruption network operating within E&E. The matter was immediately handed over to the Hawks and the SIU for criminal investigation.
We understood from various sources that there was pushback brewing from certain individuals within E&E regarding the investigation. Since Friday some E&E staff have been intimidated in an attempt to prevent them from working. This led to certain areas having extended electricity outages over the weekend as the Metro could not attend to any maintenance or repair work.
Yesterday we received further information that some officials are planning a total shutdown of the City caused by large scale blackouts. In addition, there is an apparent plan to hold both the City Manager and myself hostage at City Hall.

Firstly, I want to sincerely apologise for this massive inconvenience that our residents are now suffering as a result of internal municipal issues. Secondly, although I know these wilful acts of sabotage will effect our City extremely negatively, we unfortunately need to go through this pain in a bid to rid the institution from criminal elements that are strangling the life out of the City.
Corruption is a cancer that has almost destroyed our City administration over the last couple of years. If we want to get our City working again, we simply have no choice but to rid ourselves of the criminal elements within the City. NMB’s coffers are not open for looting anymore.
We will do everything in our ability to normalise the situation as quickly as possible as well as protect our honest, ethical and hardworking employees that are now being intimidated. I can assure the public - acts of subordination and intimidation will be dealt with swiftly and harshly.
Lastly, I want to sincerely thank my colleague, Councillor Lance Grootboom, for being an exemplary leader during very difficult times.
Please keep our City in your thoughts and prayers during what is no doubt going to be a very difficult time.
More updates to follow.
Your Executive Mayor,
Retief Odendaal

"Never" is far too certain, we don't know what the future holds.

Hope is fine when there are reasonable chances. On the other hand 30 proven years and history cannot be ignored. Just look up north and you will see South Africa's future.

I for one have the utmost faith in the elders of Wakanda when they say they will fix in 18 months what they've so painstakingly pulled through their asses these past 30 years

Well education for one. I am wondering about the quality back then . To seriously think that only catering for a portion of the population equates to catering to the whole population is bordering on retardation.

The apartheid government was the first to give blacks an education. No government, not even the ANC did that pre 1994. Did you expect them to suddenly build a lot of new schools? Even the ANC can't build enough schools and they've had 30 years.

And the matric those days was accepted overseas, unlike the 30% pass today.

If there was no education, how did Steve Biko become a doctor and Nelson Mandela a lawyer? Are you aware the apartheid government built 10 black universities? How many universities has the ANC built?

Yeah, it's quite revealing that the "good old days" preachers never mention how much less was spent on black kids' education than on white kids per capita under Apartheid.

Different actions = different outcomes?

No, it's in the genes. Derp derp.

Maybe because the apartheid regime was the first government to offer blacks an education? How did you expect the majority to suddenly be absorbed at once?

Yeah, it's quite revealing that the "good old days" preachers never mention how much less was spent on black kids' education than on white kids per capita under Apartheid.

Yet there is a public holiday celebrating the burning of schools in 1976 while screaming "Liberation before education!" and the government is blamed for the poor state of black education?
