Vodacom Fibre Router HG659 Firmware?

Hi all,

Is it possible to get the firmware(Vodacom firmware) for this router ?

Mine seems to be bricked and the fix is to load the last known firmware via the method in the link below.

I have a backup of my config settings so I can just restore it once I get the router to work again.

All that I get when I switch it on is the power light, non of the others are on. So after searching online this seems to be the solution.

Hi, did you manage to fix your router?
I managed to load the new Zealand Vodafone firmware but the admin login and password are the same as the last Vodacom firmware.
 
Hey guys, I have one of these routers laying at home (after a fall out with Vodacom) and I want to commission it as a Wifi extender. Do you know if I can load the original Huawei software on it to try and get root access?

I have the white HG659 and attempted to load Vodafone firmware, seems to be bricked with just the power light.

I attempted Recovery mode with the same and NZ firmware, but it makes no difference.
Huawei don't want to supply the firmware because I'm not an Enterprise client.

I passed it on to someone else, as-was. I've no idea if they came right with it. Sorry.

Hi. Have you managed to get this router working as an extender? I also have one after I upgraded to a new contract.
I would like to try and use the router with the usb for a network drive for backups.

Hi

I contacted Huawei, as I couldn't find the firmware for the HG659 on their website.

They referred me to:

HUAWEI South Africa

Explore the latest technologies in HUAWEI smartphone, wearable, PC, tablet, audio, router. Get to know the related accessories and software applications.
consumer.huawei.com consumer.huawei.com

..where I did a search:

Search

Search
consumer.huawei.com consumer.huawei.com

..which gave a result:


..which downloaded a 36.2 MB file named:

HG659-13 V100R001C195B021_South Africa_Vodacom_05021STU.rar

That is the South African Vodacom firmware for the HG659-13.
(The 13 is printed below the end of the barcode on the label on the back.)
Default password: [U$^-V8n_Cp3

After flashing the firmware, log in and do a factory reset first.
Then log in again and change the password.
Also disable Remote Management.

This router can be unbricked and firmware updated.
I've done both.
