United States reveals demands about BEE, expropriation, and “Kill the Boer”

United States officials have provided four conditions to normalise relations with South Africa, which include demands on farm attacks, land expropriation, BEE, and “Kill the Boer”.

The fourth point is an interesting one. If the USA does get an exemption from "all" BEE requirements, it would also be inclusive of preferential treatment. It won't be long until other foreign participants in our economy also make the case for an exemption. It is just a matter of fairness.

Now I have been aware of this development, in particular of point four.

The question I have is, what about South African citizens? The courts that deem this constitutional will argue this in terms of redress and all that attaches to it. South Africans get excluded, while foreigners get included. For some reason, there is nothing wrong with this picture.

The day foreigners are excluded, they will enter the market and compete against you. That is a fact.

As an American once told me, if you don't like the rules of empowerment, then move. Not the exact words, but that is the gist of it.

Points 1, 2, and 3 are perfectly fine. Point 4 doesn't benefit the minority, and the exemption of BEE for foreigners won't lead to the abolition of BEE.

Point 1 could lead to better security for rural communities in general. Point 2 shouldn't have been made; the song is a gross example of being exempt from the Constitution. Point 3 is simply fair and reasonable.

These demands are nothing new. I am convinced they were given to Ramaphosa and everyone in his delegation the day they were in the White House. These demands were just never shared publicly and they were kept under wraps.

There is a reason why Cyril left America with any form of trade deal, why AGOA is still on track to be cancelled by September for the country.

I do suspect that the ANC decided to wait Trump's term out and try their luck with the next president. But, until then, the collapse of the country will continue and international exclusion will escalate.

Nonetheless, the best way to deal with South Africa and the ANC is to keep pressure on them by keeping everything in the international public domain. This is what I expect from parties like the VF+ and groups like Solidarity and Afriforum which I contribute towards. International pressure is of utmost importance.
