What's a fun board game you would recommend?
 
Power Grid is a great game with the right group. All about efficiency in managing the resources. End game is nervy

I personally love Dead of Winter. The semi-cooperative nature with a potential betrayer is a great element.

Libertalia is a quick card game about sending pirates onto a ship to gather loot. A commonly played game in my group

Brass Birmigham is my personal favourite but it is a heavy game.

On Mars for a brain melting experience.

Heavy games/medium, great western trail, dune:imperium, food chain magnets

Everdell, wingspan and lost ruins of arnack. For light/medium gameplay.

Splendor, Azul and Mexican train for light games
 
When playing with the kids

It's infuriating knowing one of your objects is on that card but you're not seeing it
 
Depends on group sizes and what the group is into.

Azul was recommended in this thread already, very nice relaxed game, for 2-4.
Code names duet for 2-4
Pandemic for <4
Decrypto for groups of ~6+
