Political leader says it would be stupid to have Elon Musk's affordable rural Internet service in South Africa

Rise Mzansi leader Songezo Zibi says South Africa would be "stupid" to allow Elon Musk's Starlink to launch in South Africa.

In a video posted to X (formerly Twitter), Zibi said South Africa should fight to prevent the affordable Internet service from launching locally due to its ties with Musk.

So Songezo likes to announce to the world he's a clueless retard.

Must be such a disappointment to old lady Oppenheimer after she gave them all that money.

Luckily most of the people of South Africa do not consider themselves part of what the government refers to as 'South Africa' in the first person. The inherent racism of the government and its beneficiaries is well documented and on display for the world to see.

Why don't we ask people that this really concerns about it?
It is easy to posture in comfort of your home and with fiber or any other connectivity at your disposal.

Go to those rural schools and ask them would they like free connectivity now that can enhance learning and give them access to the world or wait anther 10-15 years?!

People like this should be treated like the scum that they are and shouldn't even be given airtime or any acknowledgement. But typicaly of the political class in the country. Cut the nose to spite your face and it's got nothing to do with helping people, but to get a platform and make your name known. he got his clicks and comments. now move on

That's the thing, the risk imho is super low, as this is not an affordable broadband solution, it's not a solution for the masses, but rather for a small cohort of people e.g. farmers, lodges, search-and-rescue etc. That would probably be less that 100 thousand customers, not millions

I had a theory a few years back that the reason our education system is so bad is that stupid people are easier to control and will vote in the way they are told to vote. An educated populace is the ANC's worst nightmare. I think that has more to do with this Starlink issue than we realise. The majority of ANC support is from rural areas where Starlink would do the most good. Most of the people in the rural areas probably dont have access to the latest news from SA and beyond. Should Starlink launch there it would erode that support base which the ANC cannot afford.

To a lesser but still valid extent the EFF and MK would also suffer if rural areas suddenly had access to decent internet access and could educate themselves about what is going on with the people they are voting for. A village of 100 people could split the cost of a single kit and have decent village wide wifi for an affordable price. Assuming its around 100 usd per month that works out to R1700 / 100 = R17 per person per month. (used R17 = $1 for the example because I am too lazy to look up the current rate)

You're telling me if this launches, the poor suckers in the villages will drown in affordable internet?
Lol gtfoh with your misinformation. They're priced out. This benefits the farmers and the like.

They don't care about the poor villagers. This is all about culting for Eelawn
