Best way to bring down cholesterol?

And the dietician must tell you which food?

It seems he is addressing the symptom, with the medication and not the root cause.
Yeah could be.

Definitely gonna look at other options though. I have a feeling my body does not perform well on refined carbs

Yup refined carbs are worse for cholestrol than fats are, there's been quite a few reverses. Like the diet you were put on? That's not going to help the cholestrol, it's just going to cause you to regret life.

You can follow my story along here. I lost 15kg and dropped trig from 7.4 to 0.88 in 8 months total health reversal.

Im on febo fibrate for trig and rasuvastatin 5mg for cholesterol. Diet and lifestyle did not drop the rest of the cholesterol enough. I have zero side effects this is low dose powerful stations.

I have familial issues so I can only do so much without meds.

Did you go for a blood test & the doctor sent you the test results? Mind sharing Total / HDL / LDL / Trigl...?
Hdl=1.4
Non HDL=5
LDL 4.6
Nothing about trig..

Is this bad or not so bad..Dr has prescribed LIPOGEN

Just get rid of grain... humans were never meant to eat that crap, sure it tastes nice but I'm sure an expensive hooker is nice as well.

If you can't get rid of the grain hookers, just cut it back drastically.

Now go eat a big piece of meat! 🐷

Stick to 'whole' foods as far as possible, cut out any processed foods, get Omega 3's in, add some fruit if not eating already and up the exercise. I presume you have been a prescribed a statin?

Dietary "Portfolio" Approach

  • Instead of just reducing, research supports adding specific, scientifically proven foods to your daily diet to "flush" cholesterol.

  • The "Portfolio Diet" Components: Consuming a diet rich in soluble fiber (oats, barley), plant sterols/stanols (1.5-3g/day, often found in fortified margarines or yoghurts), soy protein, and nuts (almonds, walnuts) can reduce LDL cholesterol by up to 10% or more, similar to some medication effects.

  • Avocados: Daily consumption of one avocado, as part of a moderate-fat diet, can significantly lower LDL and total cholesterol.

  • Soluble Fiber Boost: Aim for 10 to 25 grams of soluble fiber daily (oatmeal, kidney beans, Brussels sprouts, apples, pears) to block cholesterol absorption.

  • Healthy Fats over No-Fat: Replace saturated fats (butter, red meat, coconut oil) with monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats (olive oil, avocado oil, nuts).

  • Coffee Choice: Unfiltered coffee (e.g., French press, espresso) can raise LDL, while filtered coffee does not.

Eat heart-healthy foods

A few changes in your diet can lower your "bad" cholesterol and improve your heart health:

  • Cut back on saturated fats. Saturated fats are found mostly in red meat and full-fat dairy products. These fats can raise your total cholesterol, especially low-density lipoprotein (LDL). This often is called "bad" cholesterol. Eating less saturated fat can help lower your LDL levels and improve your heart health.
  • Eliminate trans fats. Trans fats are harmful fats that often were found in some margarines, packaged cookies, cracker and cakes. On food labels, they may be listed as "partially hydrogenated vegetable oil." Trans fats can raise your overall cholesterol and increase your risk of heart disease. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration banned the use of partially hydrogenated vegetable oils on Jan. 1, 2021, but it’s still smart to check ingredient labels for partially hydrogenated oils. Even if the label says "0 grams" of trans fat, check the ingredient list for "Partially hydrogenated oil." If you see this, there may still be some trans fat.
  • Eat foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids don't lower LDL cholesterol. But they have other heart health benefits, including reducing blood pressure. Good sources of omega-3 fatty acids include salmon, mackerel, herring, walnuts and flaxseeds.
  • Eat more soluble fiber. Soluble fiber helps block some cholesterol from being absorbed into your bloodstream. You can find soluble fiber in foods such as oatmeal, kidney beans, Brussels sprouts, apples and pears.
  • Add whey protein. Whey protein, found in dairy products, may be one of the main reasons dairy is good for your health. Studies show that taking whey protein supplements can help lower LDL cholesterol, total cholesterol and blood pressure.

Just out of interest, did you cut the sugar and refined carbs?

I don't eat much refined carbs but I significantly cut down sugar and alcohol from about 5 units to 1-2 units max a week. This has a massive impact on my trig but even at having my diet super clean for months barely touched my other cholesterol readings.

I also take daily chia seed, psyllium husk, pumpkin seeds and flax seeds.

Oh to be clear I attempted the clean diet etc and got trig down to 4 so still 3x max needed feno fibrate to do last push

Strange thing.
I used to limit the types and quantities of fruit because it would make me fart the worst smelling farts, and it's a problem in an office environment.

Stopped eating anything with flour (except for what you find on nuggets etc) with the injections and now I can eat multiple peaches and prickly pears etc with no issues.

I know you said you haven’t noticed any side effects, but it’s still worth keeping the long view in mind. With most medications, long-term use can put extra strain on the liver and kidneys, even if you feel fine day to day.
