R82 YouTube is better than R229 Netflix — Change my mind

YouTube is a far superior streaming service to Netflix, and is only a third of the price in South Africa if you subscribe to the Premium option.

If you don’t mind watching a few ads, then YouTube is truly unbeatable when it comes to pricing — a grand total of R0 per month versus the R229 you pay for a top-end Netflix subscription.

Bit silly comparing the top end Netflix offering to the baseline YouTube offering purely on price point.

Not that these two things are even remotely the same.

If we actually got all the Premium benefits and YouTube originals type shows here it may have made some sense.

I would say its biggest failure in the market is the Shorts side of things compared to other platforms.

But I disagree entirely, I would turn that kak off if I could.

I absolutely loath and detest that the "Shorts" nonsense pollutes searches and such... thankfully they haven't started injecting them into autoplay sessions yet but I do fear that is just a matter of time.

I mean besides the format not being my cup of tea the worst is that it doesn’t fit into the UI at all and I only use YouTube on a TV.

YouTube is the drug of choice for today's short attention span generation.
TikTok: "Am I chopped liver to you?" ;)

My FYP is a carefully curated stream of cute dogs, new alternative music, people having fun with music on niche topics (like a Mistborn / Tailor Swift parody), comedy, sketches, and specifically D&D sketch comedy.

What shows/movies are you guys actually watching on youtube? Have not really seen that side of it much other than some really old movies. My main youtube watching these days is current event video's, stuff like veritiserim, military history vids, and lets plays. The gamer content has been dropping of late though IMO.

They should have rather compared their favorite company's mono service offering to Netflix.

The service that was created to keep Netflix out of South Africa, to effectively neuter their service offering. The one that's being closed down.

I'm the same, Youtube is a TV thing predominantly for me as well.

It would be nice to have some decent filtering options that you could set on an account level, but then that gripe exists for all streaming services.
