New Gautrain routes and stations with link to important airport revealed

New stations and routes for the Gautrain have officially been gazetted as part of the ongoing expansion of the rail network.

Gauteng officials recently revealed which areas would be the first to receive the new stations, but the entire plan has now been outlined for the first time.

good, just start. If we ever managed to get an equivalent of the french metro here that the gautrain is based on, would be amazing! But this is probably a 100 year project, so maybe my great grandkids will get to use it as efficient public transport

oh and the pricing, in EU it's subsidised and cheap. Would be fantastical to travel as far as you want in Jhb for R30...

Not going to get cheaper and will definitely be heavily subsidized by the taxpayer as well, a service twice as expensive as normal rail will never be a transport option ofthe masses.

I love to be able to take the train to Lanseria Airport as it's compact and convenient unlike the morass of incompetence that is OR Tambo.

Seems a bit silly that if you want to go OR Tambo from Fourways or Sunninghill you'd have to go Samrand then Malboro, then catch the train to the airport? Or Cosmo to Sandton to take the airport train from there. Would have made more sense to have a Fouraways/Sunninghill > Malboro link to cut down on traffic and the number of trains you'd need to catch.

They could offer express trains that go though so you needn’t change trains. We’ll have to wait and see.

Im all for this. They are going to blow money on other crap anyway, we may as well get some infrastructure for it. I wish, for the world cup, they spent 10 times what they actually did. We would have some decent infrstructure. We haven't built anything of note since.

'they' are busy "selling" us some bridges in the Eastern Cape.

I have been hoping for this for AGES. We need Gautrain to get moving to the Northern Suburbs and beyond. Its taking forever tho...
