Big changes coming for SIM cards in South Africa

The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development wants to make changes to the current SIM card registration process in South Africa to address fraud related to weaknesses in the process.

Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi convened an urgent meeting on Thursday, 26 March 2026, to address the challenges.

“The minister indicated that enforcement should commence from 1 July.”
So they are saying that since the inception of RICA, there has been no Law Enforcement?

No way! Cant believe! A silly policy that was not thought through very well was never enforced? Shocker! /Sarcasm

Paki sims come with subscription services disabled. Will the official ones now come with the same or will they make it a value added service?

What about eSims?

Here in England you can buy a sim or eSIM without any identification.
