Cool Ideas Fibre ISP – Feedback Thread 6

I do run my own business now.. a lot of assets from the time my Uncle was the country manager of IBM in the early 2000s

So I figured why not go all in? I’m 24(which is very old to start a company and in general) so I’m kind of playing catch up
I would say it isnt wise to take up a product for the sake of taking it up. And then being in a long term expensive contract to not really benefit vs a lit service.

Nice thing about p2p tho is you don’t have to worry about forced routing thankfully. All the low latency paths are picked. So I can freely play any time of day depending on the time. Asia peak hours, EU peak Hours, NA peak hours

That's why most of the big games have dedicated servers, unlike the gta 5 days where you'd get kicked by a guy with a mod menu because of p2p
Tekken also still uses p2p.. and their is international tournaments hosted often. The threshold being 200ms else you cannot play.

Honestly I play overwatch and fortnite 95% of the time nowadays, Exitlag works perfectly for fortnite, and overwatch/google has a solid Middle east route, which is why I see no point in all this

Eventually though there is a benefit that Dark Fiber has. Return on investment once you reach a certain level of contract agreement like I did. I chose a very high speed.. 5gbps. So we calculated for the long term that in the end I’d be saving.

Let’s say I keep it for 5 years I’m saving about 20%. Not too mention I can eventually lease the line as well. And like I said I getting very old, I’m 24 and yeah thinking of the future is the main priority now.

The Tekken community is very large in SA believe it or not.. that 90ms to Brazil comes in clutch for some people. I mean the payouts for Tekken tourneys is insane. You win one and in this country.. you’re set for life. Can easily go live in Clifton

I'm only 22 at the moment, maybe when I'm an unc like you I would also start caring like you do

If you took a certain capacity then its a lit service from DFA. You can literally start at 1Gbps and scale it up as you need it.

1gbps wasn’t enough for me unfortunately.. too many files I upload for the company I work for remotely(Fujitsu) who unfortunately pulled out SA so remotely working for them is the only option now.

And not to mention all the assets I need for business to actually kickstart properly. Let’s just say I’m taking more steps then I should but I regularly do that..

I recently went to get the 2 5090s to try the new DLSS5 NVIDIA released.. yeah..

Yeah I am just mentioning that it isnt a dark service it is a layer2 product.

Could I get an assist getting my line upgrade across the line? I specifically asked ages ago to relocate my line and ugprade it on 1 April to coincide with my move. I now am sitting with two 30/30 fibre lines, one in a flat I no longer rent and another in a house that should have 500/200 auto-scheduled two days ago.

#COOL-20260401-2635831 and
#COOL-20260114-2574547 for the original relocation request in January.

Was specifically hoping to avoid easter weekend delays, but here I am. Any help would be appreciated :(

HI there, unfortunately we are waiting on Vumatel to upgrade the service, and was escalated yestrday.
This may only be actioned on Tuesday from Vumatels end.

We were the first ISP to use SACS and Monet. It caused more issues than anything else.
It’s a massive issue for ISPs to run these systems. I was in Seapoint a couple months ago renting an apartment for a couple weeks and there was SACS being picked up, couldn’t really remember the provider but exactly same issue as Vox.

It was only good to Brazil, the rest was a disaster. New York being 230ms and Europe being also pretty bad.

I find that curious considering SAFE is earmarked for decommission.
Also this I just forgot to respond, SAFE is causing disasterous problems atm. No more consistent low latency to Singapore, and lots of packet loss often. It’s just time to let it go, it’s causing more harm then good atm.

Honestly moving countries might be less effort than all this. and you'd have actual low latency
No no no.. moving countries is not just like flipping on equipment. It’s the most difficult task to get an American passport, trust me. I’ve been to Miami.. and let me tell you it took months and finding your feet in another country?

Well let’s just say that’ll take over a decade. Compared to the lifestyle I have here in Cape Town which is considered ‘high class’. I’ll be low class in America for at least a good amount. Trading quality of life for internet is absurdly schizophrenia type sh*t

Wrong, I'd swap spawn points to play fortnite on low ping any day

People legitimately do in fact move locations because of latency I’m not kidding. Especially for playerbases and activity sake. Most games it’s always the NA East server that’s most populated.

When LoL came out there was communities living in 1 central ‘house’ in Virginia just to have no ping to the server. The same happened with Fortnite, NA central People had no server for almost 10 years so Texas folks would either move to LA or Virginia.

Greetings

Observatory, jhb

There was a 3-5 min blip a moment ago. Observatory clients across the suburb impacted.

It seems stable right now
