Cool Ideas Fibre ISP – Feedback Thread 6

WHMCS has a new feature called on demand renewals https://docs.whmcs.com/9-0/billing-and-invoicing/on-demand-renewals/ you guys should look into it and have invoices send out 5 days before the due date, not on the due date.

Debit orders will only trigger on the due date

Its not that simple unfortunately, we use external processes to generate invoices for WHMCS. Basically WHMCS can only generate invoices with a single thread by default.

So we cant just use the native systems to generate. We have realistically outgrown WHMCS and so are looking to build and migrate to something else.

I've tried changing dns servers as well but that hasn't resolved the problem.
When trying to access something like supersport.com it takes anywhere from 30-60s and eventually resolves.

My actual speed up and down is fine.

Hard to diagnose, you do have 7ms to your router. Maybe worth trying something cabled?

DNS resolution failing to multiple different servers is something else, would typically be packet loss. But on your traces there isnt anything obvious.

Which router are you using.

@PBCool It seems like there is packet loss at DE-CIX Madrid again tonight, and also Twelve99 transit, not sure if there is anything that can be done, but posting incase :)

PA-440, the screenshots from monitor I posted earlier is from a hardwired device, the problem is we're seeing this from all devices regardless of how they're connected which points to the gateway (PA-440), beyond that it would have to be something upstream.

Something weird that I've noticed is that youtube stays stable regardless of the resolver.

And now everything is burning again.. except for youtube.com

Bear in mind the stuff in screenshot below would be via the mgmt interface so no weird policy enforcement being done.

Thanks you shouldn't have 7ms latency to your gateway over a wired connection.

I would suggest bypassing your PA-440 and do the same tests to compare.

Big spikes in traffic so just looking at it, akamai spikes and transit
Something weird with our traffic profiles randomly with the likes of Akamai, so have setup a meeting with Netops to try and discuss tomorrow. Tonight we're doing 30% above peak days (Sunday) of peering and international transit for instance.

I see the DNS servers no longer resolve to the on-net caches so I am guessing its related, this domain usually resolves to an on-net cache but now resolves to a host in Madrid: r-live-cache.akamaized.net

Yeap spot on I found the same, caches are basically serving nothing at the moment. Ive let the team know.

So just an update on the above, the team are making changes to the anycast DNS servers in JHB. This should resolve akamai serving content from the local clusters.

There is also an interface in Cape Town that is reaching capacity at peak times that needs to be addressed, I will update on this as we plan to make changes.

There is no RFO as yet for the Equiano outage that we are following up on.

I'm having a strange issue with my banking app & web (Capitec). I cannot pay someone while connected to my home Wi-Fi, but it works fine with Telkom LTE.

Am I the only one?

Using 1.1.1.1 as my DNS.

HI is this Capitec --> capitec? Or to which banck specifically? As I was able to transfer Capitec --> capitec just fine.

I was trying to make a payment from Capitec to FNB. I got a timeout error while on Cool Ideas; payment worked when I switched over to Telkom LTE.
It was probably a hiccup. I'll monitor :)

High latency and timeouts this morning on WoW, can't do any gaming. Highlighted IP keeps changing frequently between ae1-br01- and ae1-br02. Same result using the CISP VPN. Time for gardening...
