Checkers Sixty60 launches Tinder for groceries

Retail giant Shoprite has introduced an AI shopping assistant to its popular on-demand grocery platform Sixty60, which can prepare personalised baskets for shoppers based on their previous usage habits.

The AI assistant — called Pixie — was developed in-house by ShopriteX, the retailer’s tech and digital innovation unit, and marks the retailer’s first turn into “agentic AI commerce.”

“Using AI, Pixie learns every time you shop, anticipating your needs and shopping cycles and then surfacing products before you have to start searching.”

So women will be seeing chocolate and ice cream once a month

Oh great, more AI slop to deal with. I want to buy a few items, and not be accosted by AI

This headline infuriates me. Who the hell thought that an AI assistant suggesting groceries is anything like Tinder?

Yes Charlie, they're both about making matches on your phone through the action of swiping, but the one lets you get toothpaste and the other might get you laid if you're very lucky. Not quite the same issit? Or what are you ordering from Pixie exactly, if both Tinder and Checkers are satisfying your same basic need?

It would be pretty cool if I could take a picture/screenshot of a recipe and pixie could go find all the products for me and add it into my basket.

Would be even cooler if pixie could ask if I want GMO or Organic products. Also if products contain specific ingredients to not add those.
