Engen allegedly replaces 93 Petrol with 95 Petrol due to shortages

This is going to GENERATE unhappiness and the grass will bloom.

is 95 not better than 93? if i get 95 at 93's pricing how is that bad?

If they already have to substitute shortages of one with the other it is just delaying a disaster waiting to happen

Should move on from that 93 crap with modern high compression and turbocharged engines.

95 inland and bring back 98 coastal pls.
And what about all the non-turbo engines still prevalent, even in new models?

and the tanks didnt flag a contamination in the 93 tank? There would've defintely been an alarm and engen operations would've seen this happen.

And? They can use 95 too.

Direct injection says hello.
Direct injection is speaking the wrong language - it shouldn't affect octane requirement.

Looking at manufacturer recommendations for Jhb for top 10 selling vehicles in SA:
- Hilux 93
- Polo Vivo 93
- Ranger 95 (ecoboost)
- Swift 93
- Corolla Cross 93
- Isuzu (only diesel)
- i10 93
- Tiggo 4 Pro 93 (NA) or 95 (Turbo)
- Starlet 93
- Jolion 95

The question is, why? Are fuel shortages imminent?

Speedster is correct, in that higher is not always better. Too high octane can hamper older engines, of which there are many on SA roads.
I personally am very sad that 98 is not available here, as I need octane booster (diluting with ethanol atm)
Depends what you drive..
