Communications minister refuses to talk to Starlink or Elon Musk about licence in South Africa

South Africa’s Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Solly Malatsi, says he won’t engage directly with SpaceX over its application for licenses to operate its Starlink Internet service in the country.

Speaking to Newzroom Afrika, Malatsi said these engagements are the responsibility of the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA).
 
Isn't it his responsibility to get icasa to get with the program? Or isn't he above them?
 
The SpaceX and Tesla CEO added that racism should not be rewarded regardless of which race it is applied to.

Following a public consultation period in 2025, Malatsi instructed ICASA to incorporate EEIPs into its regulations.

It is because of people who think like you that South Africa is sliding back into the deep dark ages. You play around on your computer and come up with backward arguments on this forum while millions of young people in rural areas are denied the opportunity to have internet access and better their lives.

South Africa should go down on its knees and beg Musk to bring Starlink as soon as possible. Instead, our 'leaders' are still trying to change the past rather than build the future and they use exactly the same arguments you do.

I guess you are not a person who needs a service like Starlink so its easy to call the shots, but some of us just wish they would reach an agreement and get it sorted out. Its not Elon suffering here, its not the BEE fat cats. Its us, the consumer.

An educated population is capable of thinking, which has been the no 1 priority since 1994 to control. When you have high school graduates with a passing mark, who are unable to add 2 single digit numbers without a calculator, and even with one probably will get it wrong......

This is why we are fast becoming a sh*thole country. Once the most advanced country on the African continent, able to build nuclear bombs and advanced missiles, to a backward country that cannot even see its way open to bring one of the most basic things in a modern society to its people.
 
Nope. My quality of life is better than my parents, and my sons quality of life is better than mine was.
