Airlines face a new tech threat in South Africa

The transport department has published updates to the National Airports Development Plan, highlighting the threat posed by improved video conferencing and voice-over-IP (VoIP) technology to local air travel.

According to the department, the development of these communications technologies has reduced the need for face-to-face contact, which it anticipates will impact air travel demand.

They're only what, 10years behind the curve with this...

Surprisingly fast for an SA government department.

Thinking of some of the business trips I have been on. Catch an overnight flight there, usually economy class because of accountants. Attend the meeting and then catch another overnight flight back. Any sane person would prefer a Teams meeting.

What year is this?

2020?

Wait till the learn YouTube is a threat to the travel industry, because you can just look at vlogs about places instead of actually going there.

I’m flying a lot and enjoying it. Got no issue with it lol. And the planes are quite full. I think we’ve settled into somewhat of hybrid approaches with some doing more travel some doing less.

I love airports, countries and people though so Teams is not big for me unless I have to.

Yoh, we used to have video conference calls with clients 20+ years ago.
Glad the transport department has caught up.

Dear ANC, if you think Zoom is a threat, know that it is nothing compared to the clear and present danger MS Teams is!

MS Teams must be stopped at all costs, please ban it immediately ... for ... errr ... air travel demand! Hell make up any reason you wish, just ban the POS so work moves onto something else for the love of all that is good!
