Cool Ideas Fibre ISP – Feedback Thread 6

@PBCool @CoolEscalator Forgot i made this a few months ago to find the CISP DNS easier. Do you guys want it? its a web page that you can host on a sub domain or something, otherwise will just delete it

Hi there, thanks for the idea, we will probably be able to make something similar , have proposed it to the devs.

I'm not sure if I'm alone, but it seems that during what I persive "busy" times (evenings, weekends) some access and downloads (usenet) are very slow/restricted/throttled. Speedtests are fine during that period. It's difficult to troubleshoot, because it can obviouisly be in many places, so I'm just trying to find out if I'm alone (provider) or not (ISP).
For me this seems to be a recent thing (Last month or so)

Our streaming services are sometimes horrendous during the evening...

I noticed it too on Usenet. I was using Eweka and the speeds have been bad, 60MB/S down to 4MB/s or less.
I've been getting better results with Frugal as they have a local server, but it's also dependant, sometimes it's line speed, other times it's 20's.

OK so not quite isolated it seems. I had it this afternoon (now in fact stuck at exactly 4Mb) and also last night. Based on the timing I can only deduce something on the SA side of life.
Anybody from Cool Ideas? Is usenet being throttled/deprioritized?

Any issues with routing to Germany (Guild Wars 2) tonight? As soon as I get in a WvW fight, ping shoots up to 4000ms+. Its a fine mix between Arenanet's Temu servers and actual connection issue. I will log a ticket but god bless that poor engineer getting it

I don't have any slowdowns of usenet or anything at peak times (Jhb Vumatel).

If I have to guess, you probably have a packet loss issue with your fiber provider in peak times, so you need to start gathering evidence with ping plotter, different times of day, and log a ticket with Cool Ideas so that they can send it on, and hope that the provider fixes it.

If you don't believe that the fiber provider can cause what you are seeing, ask your favorite AI this question:
please explain briefly how constant packet loss on last mile fiber network, will have the effect with TCP that local traffic with low pings will be fast but international traffic with high pings to the other side of earth will be slow

We dont have the ability to prioritise different profiles of traffic. If an international speedtest is still fine then this is typically the usenet service suffering during peak periods.

Hi, if there are known issues they will be on the announcements page, nothing im aware of.

"I will log a ticket but god bless that poor engineer getting it"

What does that mean?

Means nothing bad, sorry. It will just be a "pain" to try and investigate or fix due to GW2 servers/AWS blocking any data that isn't game data (icmp, 80,443, etc etc). So we can't even do something simple like run pingplotter with the server's IP.

Edit: + as I mentioned, GW2/Arenanet is using Temu/wish.com's finest servers so there is a fine line between "yes this lag is expected, it is actually the game server" vs "this lag is more than expected, no one else in the group reporting the same, something is off with my connection"

Have you tried the UK VPN and Madrid VPN to rule out peering/local pickup points?

You mentioned AWS so if it's using their network... it's been pretty bumpy when I played Apex over the past couple days and the normal 150ms ping is 190

Ahhk, well look for most of these things with local peering we cant do much about it. Is why we have the vpns.
