Record sales for plug-in hybrid EVs in South Africa

As was the case with South Africa's fully electric car sales, March 2026 was a record month for plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) sales in the country.

According to data from the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa, 664 PHEVs were sold in the country last month.

Never been a huge fan of hybrids, although I owned a GS450h once. As a daily driver I would rather choose, in order:

1. EV
2. Diesel
3. Petrol
4. Hybrid - which I would sell and buy an EV.

Just watched that youtube video of BYD last night, a mere reminder on how quickly they catch fire - while it being covered up by the Chinese Gov. Not to mention how they fake their sales numbers.

I'll stick with my 2004 Prado v6 4L for now, at least I will be able to drive it for another 20 years. While the BYD cars are designed for 8-10 years.

Fancy headunit, button-less displays are a regression in technology not an advancement.

Car advise, don't buy anything newer than a 2013 model, nor a 3 cylinder, nor a small engine that runs borderline red.
