I'd do it later on in life (2 year old) and pay the late registration fees

Doing Mrs Bad's ILR application.

Fook mee. Talk about two tier / rip off Britain.

3200 squid and you might get an answer in 6 months. Oh and you can't leave the uk before you get an answer.
Add another grand and you get an answer the day after your biometrics.

Four thousand two hundred and twenty ****ing pounds.

I have to do 4 of those in about 2 years. So about £16K, I'm still saving up for it...

Expensive but it is worth it. I always do the priority service.

The purchase of our first house here has gone through!

We are moving next month. Currently renting and the agency has tried to get us to give two months notice. Part of the new RRA that comes into law from the first of May.

They’re viewpoint is that since our lease says we must give a full months notice, that my notice won’t be valid until the first of May. So we will need to abide by new laws.

Laughed at them and told them that’s not how it works; my tenancy will end at the end of May and that’s the end of discussion on the matter.

Where would we be without valuable insights such as this? 🤔

Anyone else been asked to submit tax returns for sars even after doing ceasing to be a tax resident?
I ceased in October 2022, everything seemed ok, got a message yesterday my SA tax return is over due

Yes.

Even though you are not a tax resident, you will still be required to do tax returns as your tax number is still 'active'.

You'll need to de-activate (or suspend or what ever the term they use) your tax number.

Don't ask me how to do this, I paid someone to do it for me.

Sooo we left on a train from London to head back home at 14:33, heard some questionable sounds a bit later and:

Rail services in Hertfordshire are expected to be disrupted until the end of the day after a person was hit by a train.

British Transport Police said it was called to the railway line in Berkhamstead at 14:55 BST.

The force said a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

London Northwestern Railway warned services between London Euston and Milton Keynes Central could be delayed or cancelled until the end of the day.

Been sitting here stuck for 4hours, never taking a train again lol

Oh that’s terrible. Hoping the train driver is okay.

Took us 11hrs to get home. Was a suicide: apparently someone jumped in front of the train. They basically cancelled all the trains on that line after that. I imagine the driver is going to need some counselling :/

What a sh1tshow, we had to be evacuated onto a different train and were sent back to Euston.

We went down to register our little one at home affairs (who were surprisingly super nice to us) - had a near perfect trip then on the way back this happens, train staff and English folk were awesome and supportive though, as per usual.

Yesterday after work my Mrs & I needed to visit the local A&E (she has been given the all clear by doctors).

We walked in at 6pm and walked out at 10pm. During that time we saw 2 doctors and 3 nurses. The Doctors were thorough with all their questions (which I really appreciated). You could see they were going through multiple scenarios in their heads and I never for one moment felt we were talking to people who were unqualified.
The hospital was clean and reasonably organised.
Our total time there was 4 hours which I am happy with since I feel she was likely categorised as "concerning, but not near death).
Our real only take away was that they needed more staff. She got talking to the team that drew her blood for labs and it seems that they had been working double shifts because the people who should have come in to relieve them failed to show up.

People bitch about the NHS; but imho I find they’re doing the best they can and am very appreciative of their services. We are planning for a second child and my wife (who is aw British as they come) is already concerned about NHS treatments.

The maternity care is pretty smooth and effective. Perhaps a little excessive after the birth (house visits...) but pretty streamline.

They are also a bit understaffed near me though, resulting in some Sunday visits.

We found it quite good but I guess it depends on area. The hospital stay itself was a bit meh, but we got there in the end.

Personally loved all the post birth visits, especially as new parents
