Afrihost Vodacom Fixed 5G thread

speedtest gives me 125mbps down and 10mbps up. but i can't stream anything from chaturbate or from pornhub even at 240p resolution. ping to youtube.com works fine, ping to 1.1.1.1 gives me 20-30% packet loss. streaming youtube at 4k works fine. is it my international traffic that's too slow to be useable? but local cached stuff like youtube is fine?

What puzzles me is that Cloudflare has a presence in both JHB & CT. I've switched between Cloudflare & Google DNS with the same amount of packet loss. Youtube shorts glitch, webpages are lethargic and international routing to Europe is over 250ms.

This product, in my opinion, is a complete and total disaster.

It really is I am so tired of pages loading like I am on dialup, speedtest is full 50/50 as my package but a DSL line feels better to use, webpages struggle to load all elements, Netflix doesn't even load the list of shows it just sits and loads.

Packet loss is permanently 10-15% lowest I've seen was 5%. The packet loss is highly caused by routing and not Vodacom cause how is the Cool Ideas thread showing a different situation.

Then the dreadful drop from 5G to 3G (Like 4G does not exist ?) connection is maxed at 4mb on 3G and then everything is slower latency increases and after a restart magically 5G is back

exactly the same issue's Afrihost Vodacom LTE pro ...

had this same issue exactly 1 month ago
back and forth with afrihost , "no issue", "investigating" , "fixed" - but sadly no its not usable every second page load hangs

got fed up and cancelled this week - to switch to MTN , Capped 400gb/400gb

MTN stable signal 5g, but get a lekker 30Mbps/30Mbps connection for R749 on a capped connection! , is ridiculous , going ask support about speed but prepared for "restart your router", "leave it off for 5min" , without resolution.

its such a waste of time

I am up from the 30mbps MTN speeds about 3x. The upload speeds is way better than Vodacom ever was .. around 60mbps.

With MTN change to 800gig anytime data instead of 400/400 it makes it a better option for work, also ping <30ms vs Vodacom 60-80ms

For now at least, may vary in other areas

I also don't need the external antenna with MTN, it's the same with/without it

I requested a seamless move from an MTN to Vodacom package still with Afrihost, they basically denied me and said I must reorder, forcing me to pay pro rata. Cool, I cancelled my MTN, ordered Vodacom on the 26th of this month thinking I would receive it before the 1st, the pro rata isn't that much so either way I was fine with it. But now, it has been on "Awaiting collection" since the 28th (your fault for choosing Dawn Wing, not mine) that leaves me with the question now, I will most likely only receive this SIM card on the 6th, but I will get charged for days unused because you already activated the service on your network.

In your terms, point 8.2.1 it states "Billing will commence on the date that Service provision commences. Partial months will be charged pro rata"

So the ethical question comes in, how can you charge me for something I don't have? Even Vodacom themselves have the capability to only activate a SIM on delivery, why can't you? I know its a small amount to be so petty over, and if it wasn't for the delivery delay I probably wouldn't have made this comment but I am really frustrated with the service considering it has been flawless the last year.

I had similar experience moving from MTN to Vodacom last year, it was courier issues it took more than two weeks to receive the sim, I think about R400, I email accounts and they did discount the amount on then next bill.

Switched back to MTN this year and the delivery was on time so no issues.

Issues continue, seems to either be throttled or oversubscribed. .
