Bunny Chow pictures

Hotel Savera in Durban also sells a 1/3 bunny. on Wednesdays they have a Bunny and Beer special. I think its a Mutton or Chicken Curry bunny and a draught for R100.00

This is the legendary Johnnies in Overport.
They used to make these huge rotis. More than twice the size of a normal roti

the Rotis were huge and i used to eat there every now and then but they were not the best curries in Durban ..... they were eminently edible but not the best - so if i was moving at a time when some other place could have been open we invariably went to the other place - but there was a time when this place was open 24/7 so if nowhere else was open you could still get something semi decent without having to resort to steers or KFC in the wee hours of the morning

about the name - it was originally "Johnnies Chip in ranch" and then Sunrise Fruiterers bought the place and it became "Sunrise Chip In ranch" but people still like to call it "Johnnies" for some reason but its been "Sunrise" for almost 20 years or so now - i think they opened a branch in Cape Town too

It will always be Johnnies.
There's also a branch in Argyle Rd.
It's nostalgia, bringing back good memories of those late nights and those huge rotis.

i don't know anything about a branch in Argyle road - i do know that they have a sit in restaurant in Florida Road (House of Curries) - but that is deep in Florida road and not near enough Argyle road for it to be mistaken for Argyle Road

It was a few years ago. I saw them whilst driving past

i SUSPECT that you are mistaken - i have lived in Durban for almost 59 years and i never saw them or knew of them being in Argyle Road - i have been living in Cowey Road and Greyville over the last 10 to 12 years and as i said i have never seen them or known of them to be there and i drive on Argyle Road almost every day and i never saw them there (past, present or IMHO future too because they are an institution in Sparks Road Overport) - if they really were there i would not have missed that 🤷‍♂️

okay  seems like i was the one who was mistaken - i never saw that place - so it did exist and sorry i was wrong but i'm not sure if it's still there - will take a drive past and check (no need - see my edit below)

Edit : Argyle Road is now called Sandile Thusi Road and according to Google maps - this place is now closed and there is something else there called Shalom takeaway ..... i don't think that Johnnys would have been there for any significant length of time - and as i said i am mostly on that road almost everyday and i never even saw it there - since that was 2019 they probably closed it due to Covid anyway
