Will fuel price affect new car deals?

After a week of holiday driving on some very rough roads in the Drakensberg and KZN, as well as dealing with limited space, I’m starting to think it might be time for something new—especially if I want to keep doing more trips like this. Travelling with a 1 year old also brings its own challenges in terms of space (stroller, campcot etc). My trusty Lexus GS has suddenly started feeling short on space and is a bit impractical for tougher road conditions. My wife’s CX‑5 is capable, but space quickly becomes an issue, particularly with her packing.

It’s probably time to move on from the Lexus, and I’m considering the GWM P300.
What do you think will happen to new car deals if fuel prices keep rising?
Surely manufacturers will start offering more incentives as sales slow down?

I can't say if my recent new purchase was due to increased fuel prices hurting sales, but I did manage to get a new P300 LT 4x2 for the same price as the LS 4x2 last week..

You'll be swopping a Lexus for a GWM? You should stop drinking.

Any diamonds and gold you have? I'll give you some real fresh dog turds in exchange.

Also remember, do not leave bus and taxi routes with you chinesium car, else how will you get back when it breaks because you exposed it to direct sunlight? Walk? With a 1 year old?

Lexus is 13 years and 205k km. Still perfect but my needs are now changing. In any case it is due for some maintenance soon which wont be cheap (shocks, gearbox service, pads/discs and tyres) so timing is right to start thinking about it.

Spend that R25k on the Lexus. It will still be a 100% better car than a new Chinesium. I e.g. has amongst other currently a 10 year old Merc with 240k km. It still feels, sounds, drives and looks brand new. Lexus is the same quality.

You do not need to buy a disposable when you already have a 'last forever' quality car. It wont be in the shape your 13 year old Lexus is after even 5 years.

What is the price difference?

I too am hoping to take advantage of some sucker that didn't plan for the fuel increase.
