Here is the story.

So i canceled my Web africa account 2 months ago. When i canceled I confirm with the person from the cancellation team if anything is needed and if there will be any problems. Since i canceled a month ahead of time we are all good, and I needed to return the web africa router to the warehouse, which I did. All this i have on text. Also where it is mentioned no fess will be charged for cancellation if I hold to my end of the arrangement

Over the weekend I was debited R999 from Webafrica. i contacted them and explain I have been debited and to my knowledge this should not e correct and the funds need to be refunded. Only of the contact person telling me there is always a required R999 cancelation fee. I forwarded the pervious messages to the person were they explain the cancelation and fess if the router was not returned. She then check on her system and confirm the router was received and all is in good order but still ensures that there is always a cancellation fee and the information I received was incorrect.

They also mentioned they will not be refunding it as i am liable for this. Which makes no sense.

This I find unacceptable and also mentioned this is why i confirmed everything from the start before taking any action. I requested that a senior or manager please give me a callback to check this out. Still waiting for the callback.

I am unable to reject the payment from my side and from the bank. Just want to hear if anyone have had this before and how it was handled.

Webafrica updated their Ts and Cs a while back to include this cancellation fee into in-flight and new connections.

Seems they have it on their website.

I wonder when this was updated. Because at time of cancelation the info giving wasn't the same. I have been using Afrihost for the last 2month already. So it is still suspicious that this payment only went off now....

Fortunately I managed to pass this fee onto the new owners of the place that I sold. I just transferred the line to them. So glad I am no longer with webafrica and their crappy whatsapp support line! Argh!!!

Yeah also need to remove all card details and stuff of my account. Don't want any further unexpected payments

Looks like they changed the terms last year November.

It always used to read that there'd only be a cancellation fee within 12 months of installing the line, and the amount wasn't specified. Now that clause is changed to remove the 12 month period and the price is fixed.

Terms from October 2025: https://web.archive.org/web/2025102...edge-base/what-happens-if-i-choose-to-cancel/

Pretty schitty policy imo. But then again, I tihnk most people know to avoid Webafrica.

If change over to afrihost they should credit you for that 999 fee, as part of their save R5000 promo

when I left Webafrica I had changed my card details for monthly payments to a virtual card months in advance
as soon as the last legit payment went off I cancelled the card for proper peace of mind

at least there was no R999 termination fee, although this was DSL, not fibre at the time, they did make me pay a calendar month's notice however ... I saw it as school fees, anything to get away from the abomination that is Webafrica is worth it

don't hold your breath, you'll experience the joy upon service cancel with any ISP.
