Food you hated as a kid

Brussel Sprouts 🤮 devils bokdrols , you can sommer smell it.

I will eat anything else....well at least I'll try anything else at least twice. Haven't come across any food worse than above-mentioned bokdrols in my life
(Haven't tried surströmming yet but it is on the list of things to try before I pop my clogs)

More accurately, Brussels Sprouts and they are the pinnacle of veg.

Slow roasted in chilli-infused olive oil.... perfection
Just... No.
I don't know what it is about the things that I detest. I've tried different recipes from many people who profess to brussels sprouts aficionados... still a nope from me. Just a whiff and I start dry heaving

As a child it was fine, I think. Can't remember eating it much. But now cant stand any fish in a tin.🤮

I know the elderly folk likes it.
I throw up the moment it's in my mouth. I don't understand the appeal.

The wife loves it. She put it in a pasta late last year. I didn't even know it was in there so it's not some psychological thing. I took a mouthful... boom... instant upchuck.

I'm the same with avo. I can't stand it.

Be that as it may, even the smell of those evil things makes me gag and want to throw up. I'd rather spend the extra bit.
I mostly solved the "zombie dick smell and feral taste" by letting them be in an overnight oats mix. Still I dont like them but as I said.

Liver (spread or chicken livers) kidney (in a steak & kidney pie). Still can't eat either because of the texture.

Pickled fish

I've never been a fan of seafood in general.. Canned tuna and I&J battered suff is fine, but proper seafood I can't do.

Avocado and mushrooms were things I didn't like but now do.

Nah, I come from a poor family. Seems to have German origins, and my grandfather was German.
There are versions for every culture but very much a "home food" economical chow. I grew up eating "lahanodolmades" (sp?) that my old Yia-yia made once a week (especially in winter)

But do you eat proper Jewish chopped liver? I can't deal with the texture of whole livers, but proper chopped liver.......yummmmm
actually not even that, I know its weird but Israelis know schwarma/Hummus and not Gefilte fish.
big difference between Jews and Israelis.

I only have 3 from childhood. One of them I can eat now, sort of....

Eggplant - Just because it is easy to grow, does not mean it should be consumed...
Celery - Hated it as a kid, love it now as part of soup.
Fresh Coriader - Tastes like soap to me, cannot get it in my body. Love the dried seed on biltong...

Bananas (glad to see Im not the only one)
mushrooms
Cooked / hot tomato - give a plate full of fresh / cold tomatoes, no problem, but as soon as they start cooking and turn to mush, Im done.
Most greens

I didn't like pumpkin / anything in the pumpkin family or sweet potato as a kid, and still don't like it.

Pumpkin fritters or pie is the only exception.

Rocket. Because some farm investor somewhere asked the farmer what he does with all the weeds they pull from the fields.
yeah ,add that to list here too. It's vile.

I was introduced to asparagus in the canned variety as a kid which is atrocious, fresh asparagus is a completely different thing.
Can't get it down. Fresh is much better though and have had some out of courtesy.

That fresh coriander = soap thing is actually a genetic sensitivity to aldehyde in the leaves. I love Indian and Mexican chow and would for-sure wither and die if I had this genetic variation.
