Cool Ideas Fibre ISP – Feedback Thread 6

I'm never said you are lying, I'm mearly trying to find out more information as it comes my way.
Since no speed tests or any form of data is provided to go off of, is why I requested it accordingly.

Would you be able to run the requested MTR/pingplotter so that we can investigate accordingly? @Globber as well?
Well it seems the speeds have now recovered. So all looks good for now.

Yeah then that confirms it, most likely backhaul/Reflex related. (Both Vuma and Evotel makes use of Reflex)
As Reflex probably uses the same backhaul to JHB from Krugers and Roodepoort.

Will see what I can find out tomorrow and will revert back

Are you also experiencing this frequently?

Hey guys, the last couple of days my link has been somewhat unstable id say but its specific though. WINMTR looks okay however specifically in world of tanks I am getting a fair bit of lag and stutters and seems unstable. Openserve is the back end. at times twitch is also buffering allot. Typically never have issues with my link.

HI there, this sounds isolated to international , since I don't believe world of tanks have local servers

I do see there was some minor loss on international from JHB side, nothing major but could explain it.
As we also saw the same loss on Sunday night as well, but not last night.

Can you confirm if you had any issues last night?

Yeah I did have issues last night, the WoT servers are EU based.

HI @Brenvh @Chris_Auc , trust you are well
Please note, there is a link upgrade in progress that is suspected to be the cause of the peak time issue.
I will let you know when the upgrade is completed to test further.
Hey @CoolEscalator any ETA on when this change will be complete?

Had a few drops this morning :( also seems like the evenings are getting worse again...

HI there, unfortunately the only way to ensure No-CGNAT is to purchase a Static IP
We use CGNAT for Overflow, so you should get a public IP majority of the time, but can get CGNAT from time to time as well

You can also always just click"save and apply" on your router PPPoE settings, to re-dial the session, which should give you a public IP eventually.

Alternatively, you can always use services like Cloudflare Tunnels (requires a domain) or Tailscale (doesn't require a domain) that allows internal access securely without needing to port forward anything, or without the need for a public IP either.

Thanks for the reply
Disabled pppoe and re enabled and its all good now .

Same thing again tonight, performance just isn't there. it's odd, its not terribly bad but I can just feel that something is off, stats don't look bad though

getting full throughput on tests and stuff but getting buffering on videos, and again EU latency is spikey and drops

Just registered to post a comment in this thread.

I've also been experiencing similar issues the past three evenings (Openserve backend). From around 7pm to 10pm there are frequent timeouts, packetloss, high latency and inconsistent speeds (I want to say it's more of an issue on interntional sites, but can't 100% confirm). As @KaboomZA said, sometimes performance just feels 'off' even if there aren't obvious timeouts/lost packets.

When trying to run speedtest.net tests during those periods, it often takes a lot longer than usual to find an appropriate server. odd. And in general, i've now seen this behaviour happen on more occasions in late April/Early May than probably the past year combined.

Other evenings, days, mornings, afternoons, everything works without a hitch.

6:40 AM and link drops allot, like full packet loss and then surfaces and comes alive again a few seconds later

HI there, seems this was our team who did a line Reprovision this morning, Which briefly dropped the connection, I believe he called about an hour ago?

@KaboomZA @FlickeringLight
Regarding the international weirdness mentioned, I will ask our team to have a look , and will share any feedback should I receive it.
Your time and patience is much appreciated.

Thanks, yeah definitely an area issue, or a fibre fault at your premises. Our team will report it to Vuma accordingly
@CoolEscalator just wanted to let you know that, thanks to Sibonile, Karabo, Faith and Maureen, I'm back up and running. Karabo kept me informed throughout and she also raised the priority with the Escalations team.

Please thank them again on my behalf.

HI there, thank you for reverting back and confirming all is now in order.
I will be sure to let them know :)

Hi there yes they did do a reset this morning, but for example now when I did a speedtest, im only getting like 350 down when I typically max out at 500+

thanks for the feedback thus far @CoolEscalator Let me know if you guys have anything, much appreciated.

Only a pleasure, if you are not getting your speeds, this would also indicate a local issue, and would not be related to the international weirdness mentioned.

I will ask our team to reach out to further troubleshoot the speed issue with you.
