One group of South Africans pay over R1,700 for electricity before using a single unit

I pay a "basic charge" of R71 for electricity, which is R30 less than I pay for water "availability". NMBS can't actually deliver much so my monthly costs are pretty low.
 
ESKOM direct says hold my beer ...

Those are rural tariffs for businesses, agriculture holdings. Generally as they are far flung
You would think that and it would make perfect sense then.

We are 8km away from the Centurion CBD surrounded by housing complexes and developments but according to ESKOM still "rural" ???
Tshwane on the other hand charges rates, taxes etc. the same as in town. :sneaky:

Go figure...
