South Africa's shift to more aggressive fixed electricity charges now sees some users pay as much as R1,761 a month before using any electricity.

Single phase is R1200 as well. Before you use a single watt. Their push for people to register isn't for the benefit of the grid.

I pay a "basic charge" of R71 for electricity, which is R30 less than I pay for water "availability". NMBS can't actually deliver much so my monthly costs are pretty low.

You would think that and it would make perfect sense then.

We are 8km away from the Centurion CBD surrounded by housing complexes and developments but according to ESKOM still "rural" ???
Tshwane on the other hand charges rates, taxes etc. the same as in town.

Go figure...
