New ZA plug standard progressing well — industry

A prominent electrical product distributor in South Africa said adoption of the country's new ZA Plug standard has progressed, and the availability of products supporting it has improved.

The adoption of the new standard, officially known as South African National Specifications (SANS) 164-2 plug and socket, has been in the works for decades.

I’ve got a few appliances with the “new” plug but I’ve had to fit them myself. Until manufacturers start supplying items with the plug already fitted it isn’t going to see widespread adoption.

So really just convenient for cell phone chargers and electrical appliances that come with the 2 pin plugs. Never seen a 3 pin

Norrafok am I going to spend good money on a product that:
a) is not required for any appliance/tool that I already have;
b) is not required for any appliance/tool that I may acquire in future.

I just redid my house's plugs with the normal old standard plugs,
each point having two inputs.
There are adapters for everything, and it works.

I don't like USB direct in the wall because in 5 years there
will be a Quick Charge version 9000 available.
Then all the USB wall plugs would be outdated.

The same thing in cars.
I don't understand why car reviewers are complaining about
the normal old school power outlets in cars.

They want everything to be USB,
but it's better to have something that can use adapters easily.

Well?
Still haven't seen a single appliance that uses this plug.
Same ...

Except this

can say not a single one sold. also no inverter Trolley or portable power station has this input (that ive seen so far)
I also thought this was a failed idea and people gave up on it.

Adoption of the "New ZA" plug is probably a little bit slower than the adoption of "smart ID" cards.

Maybe guavamint should call these new plugs "smart plugs". Where do I send my invoice for 17 gazillion Runts?

I swapped out the sockets in my house so I could throw out the adapters have more and more usable and reliable sockets
I swapped out the plugs on some appliances for the same reason (those round schuco plugs on the hairdryers are the biggest PITA)

But this is this myBB forum where the alpha males sit around whining about the ANC plugs, too afraid to pick up a pair of scissors and a screwdriver because Andrew Tate hasn't sold us a course on changing a plug

Pointless wasting money and then to continue wasting money since new appliances still come with the old 3 prong plug so you have to manually swap them out as well.

The new plug is slightly cheaper than the old 16A plugtop

An old plugtop costs between R25 and R30
A new one is under R20
