GAC has confirmed to CAR magazine that the Yion i60 SUV will launch in South Africa in 2026. Here’s what we know so far…

Following its global debut in December 2025, the local arm of GAC has confirmed the Yion i60 will launch in South Africa in 2026. While the local lineup has yet to be revealed, overseas, the Yion i60 is available with the choice of two powertrain options: EREV (extended-range electric vehicle) and battery-electric (BEV).

The EREV variant features a 74 kW 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engine, which serves as a generator for the new-energy powertrain’s 29.2 kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack. The latter, LFP item is coupled with a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous electric motor, which produces 180 kW and 280 N.m of torque. The Chinese automaker claims a top speed of 180 km/h and an average fuel consumption below 1.0 L/100 km. According to the firm, the battery can be recharged from 10-80% in approximately 12-15 minutes at a DC fast-charging station. On a full charge, the EREV powertrain offers a claimed all-electric operating range of 210 km and a combined range of 1 240 km.

REVIEW: Leapmotor C10 REEV offers electric motoring without the range anxiety

VERDICT

The Leapmotor C10 REEV, which is marketed by auto giant Stellantis, is a modern and luxurious vehicle that packs some very advanced and impressive technology. If you can stomach its price tag, it could certainly be a decent alternative to other EVs in that price bracket if you’re looking to eliminate range anxiety, but you also want a longer range than your typical PHEV.

Sweet spot? Yes, certainly. But for now, it is destined to remain rather niche.

 
Introducing the LDV Terron 9: a premium double cab bakkie that redefines comfort and capability

There’s another double cab bakkie launched in South Africa with the arrival of the LDV Terron 9, a double-cab range aimed at buyers looking for SUV-like comfort alongside off-road and towing capability.

The Terron 9 line-up launches locally with two derivatives, both powered by the same 2.5-litre turbo-diesel engine and equipped with four-wheel drive.

Variants

The range consists of the Premium 4x4 and the range-topping Flagship 4x4 models.

Both versions come standard with LED headlights and daytime running lights, 20-inch alloy wheels, roof rails and an electric tailgate. The Flagship model adds a panoramic sunroof.

LDV says the Terron 9 offers 220mm of ground clearance and has a 3 300mm wheelbase.

Exterior

The Terron 9 features upright styling with a wide stance and a large front-end design.

20-inch alloy wheels, prominent wheel arches and roof rails add to its appearance, while the electric tailgate and LED lighting give it a modern appeal.

Colour options include Blanc White, Jewel Blue, Metal Black, Cement Ash, Desert Yellow and Spruce Green.

Warranty and pricing

The LDV Terron 9 is sold with a five-year/200,000km warranty.
