I wonder if this was added when they had a DA mayor.

They can, but will it shift their votes? I know many people who will just vote DA - which is infinitely better than the ANC, EFF or MK - because it's what they've always done.
They will vote FF+, even the english ones. Right wingers FTW! Why you even mentioning those other ones?

I would hope so, but FF+ only campaigns in the (white) Afrikaans areas in Cape Town, which is not where I am. I do wish they could spot the opportunity which is right in front of their eyes, but they simply don't campaign in my area. I've realised it's extremely difficult to break past voting habits in South Africa...

Maybe jhb levy was also added by DA.

They do love their levies.

I'll pay because I believe I'm getting adequate service in our area.

For example. All the main roads in our area are being resurfaced, this night-time project started on the 23rd of April and will continue until the 15th of June. That contract must be worth millions.

In our back street, a water main burst and someone didn't to fix the tar, a different department.
I put in a service request and the same week a team came around to fix the road.

Whatever you say about the COCT, it's possible to get service if you ask, and they're spending our money on worthwhile projects.

I believe my municipal account is loaded, but at least we can say that for every Rand paid in, more cents on that Rand go back to servicing the city and to capital projects.
I'll reserve my comment on the MyCityBus thing so long, it must be eating money, I just hope it works out for those that use public transport.

I'm sure the DA will retain Cape Town in November. I just hope Helen Zille can swing it up there in Johannesburg and get that 50% or more. Without an Executive Mayoral position (50%), it may not work, a coalition would potentially be run by the kingpins and polarise her mayoral power. I'm not so sure people up in Joburg understand their situation, they may not like Helen, but they need her and only her to right the ship.

Same thing happens in dbn without any special levies. We even have the rapid bus lanes and terminals but the taxi mafia wont allow any buses.

Not sure about that. Only us current affairs nerds will remember this. The average DA voter who pays little attention to politics? Not so much.
well, i can with confidence speak for my hood.
the list of grievances is getting longer.

the small things like potholes or burst water mains, are of less concern than that of our elected officials ignoring us, the city pouring sewerage into the sea, city planners rubber stamping developers to run riot, the roads being turned into racetracks every weekend.
and of course regular protests like this on weekends

interestingly the cars in the video are much the same as those who feel entitled to turn public roads into personal racetracks, in an attempt to show off.
