Looking for a travel coffee machine and am trying to convince myself to go for a Delonghi Magnifica over a smaller Nespresso.

At around R5 per Jacobs pod (R99 for 20) it's quite tempting to go for a small Nespresso.

However the Delonghi Magnifica S – older model – at R5,999 is also tempting, but around twice the width... Got a trailer though...

Thoughts? Magnifica S vs newer Start touch models?

Not sure I use an aeropress for travelling but my old 2013 Delonghi Magnifica is still going strong.

I'd go for the Delonghi all day. You'll have control over the beans going in, and you can get bigger cups than a standard Nespresso, while the Nespresso Vertuo splits people who like its bigger pods but don't like its pods only being sold through Nespresso stores or the artificial foam imparted through the high-speed spinning. You can go for something like this for only R1600 and still get delicious espresso to make Americanos with: https://checkers.co.za/product/morp...ompact-espresso-coffee-maker-1450w-10909495ea

I got the bigger brother for R2000 which includes the option of automatic milk foam, and it also has a small footprint you might find appealing: https://checkers.co.za/product/morp...appuccino-one-touch-coffee-machine-10866653ea

Agreed, went from a Nespresso to a PrimaDonna and would not go back in the kitchen (and probably stick to the Delonghi brand always). But for travel, the smaller size, and R5 per decent pod, I will have to take a look in person. I think I will go with the Magnifica especially for less micro plastics. Will need to find out what’s best though between the older Magnifica S and newer Magnifica Start models… All seem pretty much the same so would go with the older one being cheaper and easier to maintain/repair.

I use the Nespresso mini for travels, happy with it. Conveinient and pods available from R5 or less when on special.

The Nespresso Essenza is sooo small. Magnificas were bigger than I was expecting. Difficult decision.

I actually have the Magnifica as well, but that is for home use, covers my needs perfectly.
