The City of Tshwane's R78-million plan to phase out conventional postpaid electricity meters

If COT is doing this across the board then I'd say it's a good thing. I'm stuck on postpaid in JHB and I'd prefer to be on prepaid because it would mean I wouldn't get screwed every 5 mins by eskom's incompetent billing dept. (they charged me 8K on top of my true bill last month).
Are you Eskom or CP? I hear Eskom is much better.

Tshwane has been trying to convert my conventional meter to a prepaid meter for months now but I refuse to allow them. My meter box is too far from my house to use an RF user console and I do not have a wall plug that directly connects to municipal power to use the power line connected user consoles.
I addition, I insist that they supply me with a prepaid meter that I can charge remotely for when I am travelling. They do not seem to know how to proceed.

Yeah, also some guys push back quite a bit into the grid and without the limits imposed it can cause issues for the infrastructure. I am sure in Durban its quite prevalent with the solar guys but maybe not enough to cause issues yet.
The inverter will stop pushing back if voltage and frequency gets too high.

Eskom direct.

How are they better? Maybe in terms of fixed fees for the time being but that's about it. Mine are R700 for 30 days on Homepower Standard but their ability to overcharge on invoices is remarkable. Funny enough they never ever undercharge and shield themselves behind brick wall bureaucracy in getting account disputes resolved.

Basically zero peace of mind as you wait for the next invoice to arrive.

Durban also doesnt charge line fees. Its only in places that have had the DA touch.

What about moving to Pretoria?

If they convert postpaid to prepaid then they have to credit the deposit to the users account. This will be a lot of money across the Metro. BTW, Tshwane doesn't have any money.

You lucky bastards with your old school spinny disk meters and no line fees. :p

Mine was changed from spinny to a Landis+Gyr ages ago without my consent - but I'm still on postpaid. /shrug

How does that stop one from pushing back 6kW for example when there are limits on the power you can push back? Spinny meters dont trip or anything, they just let you do whatever you want.

Sounds like they have R78 million.

The inverter is synching with the grid, so if voltage goes up then it throttles back.

Looks like the RF covers about 25m (tested it in my case conlog meter), anyway you load units on the prepaid while standing closer and once a week walk closer to check balance. Don't see that RF is preventing you from converting to prepaid.

The remote loading, yup that is a problem.

Only problem I see is the city spending money where they dont have to. They are making problems where there is none.

Just tell mamelodi to vote FF+
