FNB vs Investec: thinking of moving

Have you thought about SASFIN? Much better than Investec when it comes to service, and it's penny's on the pound when we compare fees to Investec

Thread necro!

A colleague recently mentioned that they're with Investec, and it got me thinking. Will it be worth it to move from FNB to Investec nowadays? I've been with FNB for more than 15 years, so I'm not 100% sure

Depends on what is your product holding, and your investment into the eBucks ecosystem

FNB Premier and I don't really have an investment into Ebucks. It's a lot more effort than I thought it would be. Maybe I'm just stupid
Look at the fee difference between Premier (around R250 per month) and Investec (around R675 per month) and see if you need a banker enough to justify the extra cost.
But if that's the jump you need, you should also look at FNB Private Wealth (since you already bank there) and also compare the Investec offering to private banking offerings from Nedbank, Standard Bank, ABSA and Discovery (Purple).

I am with RMB which is a nice easy way to get into private banking if you are with FNB: it keeps your account number unchanged, keeps eBucks etc.

I tried applying for Investec twice and it doesn't matter that I have a really strong credit record and meet their income requirements. I got declined due to this rule, so make sure you pay down any short-term debt before applying:
Investec has a conservative approach regarding debt and credit profiles. Our Credit team requires less than 15% of your annual salary for unsecured debt and a clean payment record for a 12 to 24-month period.

Don't you have to have a degree or be some kind of professional to get an Investec account?

Investec is nogals lekker hey, scored a sweet deal on a home loan with them. Didn't take up the private bank account, opted to keep my banking at Capitec. The cheapest by far!

I'm not a professional in anything, nor do I have a degree. But I transferred a share portfolio to them recently.
No questions asked.

I have a question about FNB fixed deposit, I have a 2 year fixed deposit maturing next month and I wanted to take that out and add some more money and then put that away. I just read online that if I haven't made arrangement for that money they will automatically put that original money away. I didn't know that is that true? How do I make sure that doesn't happen?

From FNB Fixed Deposit Product Rules

https://www.fnb.co.za/downloads/sales_downloads/ssa/15/00/pdfs/termsAndConditions/Terms_and_Conditions_Fixed_Deposits.pdf?v=2

You must tell us how to handle your funds on maturity. If we don’t receive
any instructions from you, we will automatically reinvest your funds at the
current published fixed deposit interest rate for the same time period as
the matured investment at maturity. In the case of automatic re-
investments, you have a 14-day grace period from the renewal date to
change the investment instructions, thereafter fees will apply.

been with investec for about 15yrs now.

was (still am) with nedbank for about 25yrs.
have a discovery account
also hsbc bank

opened an account with investec essentially for property transactions & finance - some unusual financing requirements.
the big difference with investec is them not working off a vanilla template and applying to all - they are prepared to venture far out of the box providing the proposal is viable.

investec is head and shoulders above the others in terms of service.
be that as it may, for regular card use (shopping etc), i use either the discovery or nedbank cards, very seldom investec.

my mother died a while back - she was with investec, (investments savings etc).
my banker (investec) has been exceptional with guidance in certain matters - better than either the attorneys of accountants !

my experience with discovery has been pretty good tho.
cant go wrong with nedbank - very vanilla and pedestrian, but stable - no ups & downs - one day after the next, each the same as the one before, which is not a bad thing !
