What was your first job?

Delivering pizzas straight out of my Matric finals. I still look back on that job fondly because the owner was great and the coworkers were decent too. No micromanaging, just get the goods drive to drop them off, rinse and repeat.

I was fixing people's PCs for money when I was like 12, not sure if that was a "real" job.

At around 15 I started working at a sports/fishing supply shop.

Sound like you were labeled the local “computer fundi” kid. Not sure if that term is still used?

I did the same, but for free - I should send out some delayed invoices.

hmpf, first thing I was ever paid for was 1st year in varsity, helped out in the admin building with the student registration process (nowadays called Kaput)

then, seeing as I was a technikon student, you get an in-service training gig in your third year which pays some bucks too, did some BI stuff and crawled under desks for an asset audit ... sometimes spotting really hot lassies who don't think about what you see under a desk when they wear mini skirts and stockings (this company eventually became BCX)

1st real job? software engineer for a small POS company that somehow exists to this day

1984, started at Mutual & Federal Insurance just after ending my Defence Force stint.
Been in the industry ever since. 21yrs old.

I finally found one of those okes I always see in the Job specs.
42 years of experience and only 21years old.

That was back in 1998, I'm still in Software Development, I still haven't got my degree (which I don't regret for a second), and I've never looked back. I got my dream career, first try.

McDonald's, what feels like 3 lifetimes ago.

I sucked at anything in the kitchen aka grill so they put me on drivethru window number 2 (handling the money) & I was highly efficient there & always given that task.

Piss poor money but the people skills learned were priceless + I ate a ton of McD's via various *methods.

*I caught on a lot of kak, did not get fired.

Part time I guess it was newspaper deliveries in Middleburg when I was 12.

Full time first job out of matric was working for a computer shop in Alberton. From building new machines in the workshop, helping out in the retail store, and delivery driver. Did a range of jobs while there.
