Liverpool FC supporters thread - 2017/18 Season

Not gonna lie... a drop of pee came out when I heard the news.

Haven't posted here for a while because I've been too busy having Roy Hodgson flashbacks and weekly, 90 minute spells of nausea... Been pretty bleak 'cos I vowed not to watch a minute of Liverpool for the 26/27 season if Arne stayed... but... it looks like Liverpool is back on the menu, boys!

Hughes and Edwards need to get a pen in EPL Alfred Molina's hands right now.
Same here.

At the very least we won't have to endure that horrible style of football next season.

Amen to that... Styleless, directionless and toothless.

Woke up this morning and googled "is Arne Slot still fired?" just to make sure nothing's changed overnight.

Will never *not* be astonished that a manager could have Ali, Virg, Robbo, Ryan, Dom, Florian, Hugo, Mo and Rio in a team and not know how to play them, let alone get a crowd pleasing tune out of them.

Now that Slot is gone, the squad is in need of some major TLC.

GK situation is ok for now with Alisson staying. Mamardashvili needs to learn how to kick and distribute the ball.

RB situation is dire. We can assume Bradley is out for the foreseeable future. We need a solid right back.

RCB We’ve just lost Konate and thus need a RCB.

LCB Virgil can’t play every game. We have to hope Leoni comes back fit/strong and is able to cope with frequent playing time at his young age.

LB Not too happy with Tsimikas as back up but he’s done it before and we have deeper pressing issues elsewhere.

DCM We don’t really have one who can impose himself and is not afraid to go in for those hard tackles. Gravenberch needs support and Mac Allister has fallen off a cliff. We need a DCM.

AM Szobozlai, Wirtz, Jones (is he staying or leaving for Inter?)

RW Without Salah we’re left with Chiesa (who is most probably leaving) in this position. Terrible planning when you consider that Salah’s exit was looming for well over a year. We need a RW.

CF Isak and Ekitike are good options if they can stay fit. I am not confident about Isak. At least one of the new wingers will have to be able to cover here.

LW Gakpo not good enough. Rio is still young and will need playing time. We need a LW.

The new manager/coach has got his work cut out for him next season.

Yeah can't have it all, think we have enough goal threat although would need a new winger to replace Salah. Defensive is critical so hopefully we sign someon who can play RB and RCB and a aproper DCM!

Man, I don’t even mind if we don’t really challenge given the size of the rebuild.

What we can’t have is the slow, horrible turgid football of the last season

As happy as my United friends were when Ten Hag and Amorim left 😃

I wasn't trying to make it a banter-type comment.

Just been discussing Slot with a Liverpool supporter here at work, and he was saying that apparently Liverpool had just hired a former Slot assistant. And then I read an article, only a few days ago, about how FSG were apparently sticking to their guns over retaining Slot. So it was a bit surprising, I thought. And clearly a pleasant surprise for most here.

As for Ten Hag and Amorim, not everyone was delirious at their leaving. Fishfly for one in the United thread - he definitely still has the hots for Amorim :)

Yeah strange it really seemed like he was staying especially after we let Alonso go... Can't remember a manager coming in looking so great for 6-8 months and then falling off a cliff. Think he atleast leaves with some money in the bank winning a PL title is extremly difficult and his tactics might not have been great but players also didn't help him. Fitness was probably one of the biggest issues if we get that right and improve our defence hopefully we can challange next season as I don't see a 90+ points team in the EPL next season.

Liverpool have appointed Andoni Iraola as their head coach following the sacking of Arne Slot.

The Reds announced Slot's exit on Saturday, a year after the Dutchman guided them to the Premier League title.

Former Bournemouth manager Iraola, 43, joins after delivering the Cherries' finest season to date, finishing in sixth place.

That was only one position and three points behind Liverpool and gave Bournemouth a place in next season's Europa League.

The Spaniard announced in April that he would leave Bournemouth this summer and he had been linked with Crystal Palace and AC Milan.

Now he moves to Merseyside, with Liverpool having qualified for next season's Champions League despite finishing the Premier League season with 60 points - their lowest tally since the 2015-16 campaign.

They finished 25 points behind champions Arsenal.

Iraola is understood to be keen to bring Tommy Elphick and Shaun Cooper, his assistants at Bournemouth, to Anfield as part of his coaching staff.

Legend goals in Champions league and the Everton derby, enjoy retirement.
My all-time favourite Liverpool goal was that 96th minute winner at Anfield, and to be fair, 'corner taken quickly' is also right up there

Sure, we could discuss the quality of a bunch of Liverpool goals... Mo's against Chelsea, or City and then Watford a week later, or Stevie against West Ham, or Gary McAllister from 40 yards out, or Xavi from 60, which all live in my head for free, but I have never startled my neighbours like I did in that time-added-on chaos that was Divock beating Everton's T-Rex on the line after that looping shank from Virg. Ever.

Jurgen invading the pitch was the perfect cherry on top too.
