Smartpad do ESPhome ad Tasmota versions of the wall socket as well:

Might just try the smart plugs so long. Any idea where smart pad is based in JHB?

Geewiz is much cheaper...

Anyone with eWelink devices managed to get it to work in local mode (SonoffLAN integration)?

Seems in local mode the switch becomes inaccessible but cloud / auto mode not.

Trying to get local mode to work for the power usage readings, which since recently has been blocked by the ewelink api (only switch status is available)

I've been using this for years. It works great.

Same integration I'm using but the Power and Current data don't populate. Just the switch can be triggered

I see that is listed in the to issue in GitHub. There is the following comment there, that seems to address the issue:

I think I've solved the LAN connection issue for the POW320D. I set a static IP address and opened port 8081. I have two of these devices, and after restarting both HA and the router, the connection that previously showed as cloud-only now shows as duplex in the integration and transmits data in real time.

Am I missing something? You replaced the WiFi chip in the Astute with ESP ?

FWIW, I have stock standard Astutes in the roof, outside, kitchen and all of them 100% reliable with strength, signal on with my WiFi5 (AP-PROs) 2.4/5Ghz dedicated WLAN
So the 10 version of Unifi controller has a tick box - enhance IOT connectivity that fixed a fair amount of these problems.

Didn't change much. All three still offline 90% of the time. Actually moved the AP right next to them to try reconfigure.

Won't buy the esp versions again.

That solution didn't help much.

Just to add a few things:
1. MAC Address of the device stated on ewelink (and sonoffLAN for that matter) differs from the MAC Address of the device in DHCP.
2. If I have the ewelink app open and on the device, then data pulls through on SonoffLAN. Close app, everything stops.

Seems like there's a massive workaround to try get these things to work locally. Going to probably dump these devices and just stick with ESPHome devices, albeit much more expensive

We have many many of the cbi astute esphome version with ESP8266 chip from smartpad, all rock solid with no downtime for weeks.

Try contacting them if you need help, they're more than willing to assist.

Experienced the same with ewelink and tuya , moved all to esphome, no regrets

I want to take one down when I have time and open it up, see if its not possibly a soldering issue - or if its possible to add an external antenna.

Did you buy it from smartpad? If so, and you sure it's faulty, send it back and they'll sort it out.

I did, think it was about a year ago, only noticed recently that it was not logging correctly in HA - and on checking the history, noticed that they're always been flakey on the network unless within 1m direct line the AP.

Looking at this, Signal can, but I haven't tried personally
Thanks - I'll have a look, finally got in to telegram

Was trying set it up for our house sitter so she can control the alarm without struggling with the remotes and the bloody thing now wants you to sign up for SMS Premium to get an OTP.
