Amazon Prime versus TakealotMore in South Africa

Amazon has launched its Prime membership in South Africa, throwing down the gauntlet to the country's largest retailer, Takealot, and its TakealotMore subscription.

For R59 a month or R399 a year, the Prime Membership offers various benefits, including free rapid deliveries, a bundled Prime Video subscription, and exclusive access to Prime Day deals.

I guess if you use MrD a lot it might be worth it to go the Takealot route but that's a big price jump for the Takealot premium tier and no yearly discount. Ouch.

"
TakealotMore Standard subscribers get three free restaurant or shop deliveries through Mr D per month, for orders with a minimum value of R150.

These subscribers also get three free on-demand deliveries on Pick n Pay groceries ordered through the Mr D app, provided they spend a minimum of R350 per order."

And pay 2x the normal takeaway or PnP product price when buying via Mr D....
A fool and their money...

Havent ordered from them in years due to their extremely inflated pricing back then.

Last coverage I saw on their extreme markups:

So if Mr. D has since changed to normal pricing then I am pleasantly impressed. But I doubt that's fully the case? you are just selecting a few well priced specials perhaps?

pnp is normal pricing same as checkers and spar on mr d, takeaway there is a surcharge on items like uber eats, also kfc are sneaky, they also add a surcharge to their delivery items, its cheaper if you collect at the store, other takeway apps just have their normal pricing but a higher delivery fee like R30 vs kfc R6.

Anyway, takeaway is not double, maybe an extra R30 if ordering for 2 people.

This got me hungry, I always add 5 or 10% tip aiming for R10:
