Eskom cannot hide salary details from South Africans any longer

Eskom will need to provide a much more detailed breakdown of its employee remuneration after the new provisions of the Companies Amendment Act came into operation.

First signed into law in July 2024, the Companies Act 16 of 2024 and Companies Second Amendment Act 17 of 2024 brought sweeping changes to corporate regulations, including employment matters.

Are we getting median and mean confused?

or are we really saying that 2/3 of the staff earn R450k average but the top 1/3 pulls the average up to R1.26m all employees costs (which excludes executives and board members).

That would imply the top 1/3 are earning an average of R2.9m for the maths to work,, that doesn't sound right at all..

You are not confused. Du Plessis' number aligns with our previous analyses, which suggest that the top-earning employees on the bargaining unit are not even getting paid the average cost per employee.

So the big missing division — senior management — is likely being very well rewarded.
