Amazon Prime launched for R59 per month in SA

Is it best to select the monthly option first, for the 30-day free trail, then thereafter after the 30 days take out the annual subscription? They might think, this guy paid for the year...he does not need the 30 day free trail...
I have nothing constructive to add except - "trial"

So then, Luna isn’t what it claims to be in South Africa. It isn’t a cloud gaming platform. You cannot enjoy “Hogwarts Legacy, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Fortnite on any device”.

Perhaps we’re too early, and Amazon still has to enable some features for Luna, but we’re far from the only people that have signed up for Prime, and this is going to leave a sour taste in the mouths of subscribers, especially gamers hoping for a cloud gaming solution.

Hopefully, Amazon can fix these teething issues. If it does, we’ll be sure to give you an update.

The economics wouldn't make sense for them to enable game streaming at 60 bucks a month. Those servers are not cheap to run. It's still a hell of a deal though.

Ok but what's included? Since I'm not on Prime I see plenty of things saying free delivery on first order. The rest are over R500 and free anyway. That still beats Takealot's R650 though.

So their claim below as part of their local launch media coverage is BS.

“Amazon Prime members can enjoy access to free cloud gaming enabling them to stream some of the most loved games including  Hogwarts Legacy, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Fortnite on any device. Prime members also have access to free, downloadable PC games each month, and a free (monthly) Twitch channel subscription, which they can use to subscribe and support their favourite Twitch streamer.”

Surely should be reported to Advertising authorities?

My Prime video still has ads and no opportunity to upgrade, although this might be because it's billed through Vodacom (as mentioned previously it's a freebie), but does anyone else have ads? I suspect mine is still registered with amazon.co.uk and this is why, but keen to know what others have.

I haven't seen any ads but if you want me to look at a particular movie or series I'd be happy to.

I clicked on the first couple of movies I saw, which was Dune and the Jack Ryan one and it was straight into the ads. TBF it's why I don't really watch Prime, even Fallout 2 after the first episode I went to the high seas for the rest of them because they have about 4 breaks an hour and they are all a few minutes long.

If you're being offered Dune then you must be on a foreign version of Prime because it's not available locally. Are you using a smart DNS or VPN?

I'm using Getflix, so yeah must be.

Kinda weird though, because when I go to the websites, the ZA account shows I'm a Prime member but the UK website says I'm not. Even though on the Video app it gives me the UK video selection and says on the TV that my account is Prime.

ZA however has my same email address and login in as the UK account and it has my UK bank card on file that I use on UK when I buy stuff and send to whoever is coming over from there. It also has my UK delivery addresses.

Dunno if it's worth sacking the freebie and getting ZA Prime for R399 a year to get rid of the ads.

I use the same account for Amazon SA, US, and UK. All my cards and shipping addresses seem to be available regardless of which country's site I'm accessing.

You might try turning off Getfix, or bypassing the smart dns on your computer, and seeing if the ads are still there for SA Prime.

Good point. I’ll play about with things later. I use an Apple TV for my streaming, but I’ve got a fire stick I only use for my IPTV so I’ll put a local IP address on it and see what happens.
