Added Built-in or stand-alone portable navigation unit as neither require a constant connection to the internet.
I use a built in system that has a constant Internet connection.

I use waze before long trips to set a target arrival time and then get notifications when I have to leave.

Waze does not seem to have complete national roads. Had the same thing going to Kimberley. It did not see the N12 as a complete route and tried to take me side roads. Waze is only really for city driving. Open road use something else like GMaps or paper.
Waze uses Google maps in the backend

Waze for long trips when I don't know the road. Useful for speed cameras, speed limits and potholes.
Google Maps in the city.

Waze

Outside of everything else, it shows the speed limit indicator on the map (which the other two don't for me - no idea why and can't be bothered to dig.

I like Google Maps for ease of use with adding stops to force it to use the route I want.

But those pothole warnings, cop warnings and speed limits on Waze are quite useful on long trips in the holidays, along with the ability to check your route and tap to check the speed of the certain cars stuck in traffic instead of just being shown a red line.
