Is it only Audi who refuse to supply a service books for their cars? Its just another example of enshittification as they try to force you to service your Audi in their kak and incompetent dealer network. I have to buy a VW polo service book at the parts department (yes I know its almost the same car ;).

Many apparently do this, it’s just cost cutting to a ridiculous degree because they've always logged the services on their systems, now they are just cutting out the physical book.

I serviced my car at Bosch a while back and they stole my service book.... only realised now when I had to fix the car and found out that the book was gone and the service hadn't happened.

Nope.. My new bakkie also has no service book provided..

It doesn't matter though.. it doesn't force you to service the vehicle with the dealership..

For the record my Haval had a service book - maybe its just Germany that ran out of paper

Even worse, my Hyundai went to the multifranchise dealer with a service book, and left without!

I had to buy another one from them (even though they lost it, but swore high and low that they did not) for R70.00, and then they couldn't retroactively fill out all the past services because some of them were at other franchises.

Dealer forgot to put mine back in the car, but kept it for me.
Ya'll need better cars :p

it doesnt force it but you need to get your own book for non dealer services - and a generic service book will be missing all the stamps linking the service book to your car

I used to drop off my previous car at the dealership (whilst the extended service plan up to 90,000 kms was still valid) - and took the owner's manual / service book folder OUT of the glovebox - and kept it with me until it was time to go & collect the car - then I got the service agent to stamp the service book whilst they were logging my job card into their system & generating my invoice... NO CHANCE of it getting 'mislaid' or failing to get it stamped accordingly... ;)

wish all this stuff was online, with blockchain tech and all that easy to see who did what, when and where,
even accessible to anybody with the VIN number, were so stuck in the past sometimes.

didnt get one with my Getz, found a few on Hyundai's system and for everything else been keeping a record on notes for what I did when,

but I fear it isnt enough, any ideas on if its worth buying a blank one and filling in as much as I can? or is it not worth it?

That's what invoices are for.. Every service centre I have used in the past had vehicle details on the invoice, linking it to the vehicle.. Keep the invoices safe and that's all you need to prove service history for the vehicle exists..

I keep a ring binder with ALL the paperwork from EVERY service, new tyres or battery replacements, aircon re-gas, as well as any other incidental spares I purchase over the counter from Midas or Autozone - such as wiper blades, light bulbs, oil, power steering / brake fluid & coolant used for top-ups, etc etc... ;)

Same.. if it relates to the car, goes into the cubby hole with the manual.. I am a lot lazier and not going to get all ring binder levels organised.. at least the manual has its own little zipped sleeve thing, which helps keep the invoices safe..

Invoices for each service and maintenance operation are far more useful than a stamped service book.

Most of the time dealers don’t fill the info properly and it’s easy to do fake entires and stamps.

A lot of them are doing this kak now. Not just service book but manual too. You must apparently read the manual in 2pt font on your phone...

Interesting my Haval does not. When did you buy? They said they keep "digital books". I just keep my service print outs in the cubby hole.

The problem with the invoices is that many if them are printed in a way that the text disappears after a while.

My Toyota CHR came with a service book, but they took it away after its first yearly service.
They said they work with digital books now.

Seem the legacy automakers have decided that the car owners should not own their car's service history (edit)
