Car brands not supplying service books name and shame

Actually filled out my service book. Wanted a new one, and I was told "we don't use service books anymore" by the very pretty VW service agent.
So they "stamp everything on their system" now.

I would not accept a car without a service book. Not new, and definitely not second hand.

so story to the counter. My brother in law bought a 2nd hand Audi from a Audi dealer, book with full service history stamped in the book. A short while after having the car it broke down and they queried the history and warranty. Turns out the book history was faked. The owner had managed to get a dealer (different to the one selling) to stamp the book. When the current dealer called the old one they had no record, it was all just faked in the book. They went through the a long process including the ombudsman but it all eventually ended in my brother in law loosing his money. They sold the car with the engine issue "as is". So dont always trust the hard copy book. D

Even with the service book it should come with receipts. Every car I've traded in had the invoices and receipts for every bit of work done on the car. When you get something done just put the receipt in the service book case. It also helps you get a bit extra on your trade in...

Still got my service book for my ailing Audi, and then realised that the buggers stopped writing in it a few years back even though i serviced it at dealer at eye watering rates.

At least my indepenant service guys write in the book now. :)

Really good advice, trading my car in soon, will definitely do this.

A lot of them are doing this kak now. Not just service book but manual too. You must apparently read the manual in 2pt font on your phone...
I wonder how long before you can search for a Tik Tok video of the manual.

Then you are SOL if you ever want to buy a new car.. Seems most manufacturers are going digital..

I'm anyway not in the market for a new car anytime soon. If I get to hat point though, I will insist on one, even if I have to pay for it myself.

Mercs and BMs don't come with service books, at least for 10 or more years already.

To what end..?

I trust that more than I would trust a dealer to not forge things on their apps. You can confirm one or two services in the book easily by calling the dealer to check if its real. How easy would it be for a dealer to have an issue and just say sorry, system crashed, the service history is gone.

I don't think dealers store data on a Windows XP machine in the back office anymore...

Not so easy.. Things go to the cloud now.. not some sorry ass 12 year old receptionist laptop..

Anyway, the invoices are far more valuable than the service book itself anyway.. Make sure you get your invoice for every service, your vehicle details are correct.. take a good quality picture of it and keep the hard copy safe.. that's your service history sorted..
