I have the bulk of my invested cash with a broker that I am mostly happy with, and it’s doing well. Not looking to move that.
But I have a bit more time on my hands now then I have in the past, and looking to “play” the markets a bit with about R50k. Not looking to become a full blown day trader, but want the flexibility to make quick trades on a relatively regular basis, taking advantage of the smaller shifts in the market. So I am looking for a platform that is:
- Easy to set up and navigate
- has reasonable service fees or commissions
- provided access to JSE listed stocks directly, not just ETFs
- Be 100% complaint with RSA rules/laws
Bonuses would be:
- Able to also invest in international markets (FTSE/NYSE listed companies)
- Able to invest in commodities (preferably ETFs and not CFD or futures contracts)
- Exposure to FOREX markets.
I haven’t looked at the platforms offered by the various banks, others than FNB share trading, but the fees on this are far too high to actively trade, I assume the other banks platforms would be similar.
All the major platforms that advertise online have so much marketing fluff thrown in, it’s very hard to make out what they really offer. Even the major players like EasyEquities and alike make so many bold marketing claims it’s hard to really make sense of them, so looking for some first hand advice from some one here that actively manage their own short term portfolios.
I want to treat this like a bit of a slush fund for buying toys and earning some extra spending money to be used on holidays etc without touching the main income streams (if I actually make money of course). I want to start out with about R50k capital into this fund, which I will increase annually with inflation. But want the flexibility to pull R5k out without it costing me R500.00 plus in buy/sell/cashout etc fees each time.
Anyone doing something similar, and what platform are you using, and what made you choose it?
