Always pay cash
There are many opportunities to get good deals

In 2018 this Honda CRV was the last of the 2017 stock, was for sale during the end of year period. Consequently, 27.5% was taken off the price. Instead of R605 000, it was R438000. Full warranty and motorplan

Cash for the last 3 cars. No financing since mid 2010's. I would rather swallow the costs/risks of no warranty and service plans, and the older cars (2005-2012) are generally less complicated (and modular), but still relatively safe and not much heavier on fuel.

Technically financial plan, but paid off in 3 weeks. Only reason is that cash actually ends up costing more to buy new cars, as financed cars get "discounts".
So I put down a massive deposit, got a finance plan for 2 years, after the first deduction, settled the car. Ended up paying R1000 more than the price.

Leased through employer as a salary sacrifice. Happy for the taxman to pay 60% of the monthly payment.

All my cars have been financed, but I've always managed to pay them off sooner than the contract term. Never, ever, take a balloon, or look at these guaranteed future value deals. These are no good.

Also, I've never owned a brand new car. Always had the first owner take that depreciation knock.

^ Best option ^ when doing h-p.
Pre pay and if you get hit with a big bill (like a turbo) then you have the repayments prepaid and can ask for a payment holiday to recovery.

Interesting. In 2018, I paid 380K cash for a brand new 5th Gen CR-V 2.0
