South African Post Office wants to exit business rescue starting from June 2026

The South African Post Office's (SAPO's) business rescue practitioners (BRPs) have revealed plans to finalise the entity's Termination Application to exit business rescue in June 2026.

This is according to the latest business rescue update from 31 May 2026, in which the BRPs said they continued to consult with the Post Office's legal team on finalising the application.

SAPO is an absolute shell. Last I checked it was struggling to pay salaries. How can it possibly be in a stable enough state to exit business rescue at this point?

There really needed to have been a reasonable prospect of rescue to start with. God knows how the SAPO BRP's got around that rule of the Companies Act

Only thing I recall them riding on was the idea that they'd try to secure the monopoly for the <1kg packages. Basically funded by taxing the courier companies. That hasn't happened, so I'm not sure on what basis SAPO is sustainable.
